I definitely enjoyed watching that.......am sooooo ready for some football!!
What a year.
He made some tremendous throws last year. He threw to guys who appeared to be covered, but he put the ball in a spot that gave them a chance to either separate from the defender and make the play, or he squeezed it in there perfectly. Our 2013 QBs would have either checked down for the 2 yard gain or taken a sack. He's going to be hard to replace.
Those were some WELL-PLACED footballs in that video.
We got VERY lucky with Sokol. That kid is very accurate with his throws, and he knows how to s-t-r-e-t-c-h a field. Sure wish we had Sokol one more year.
Sokol is one of the most impressive qb's in Tech history.
Have you considered those Dogs?
Indeed. I don't know where Sokol's single season stats place him in LA Tech history, but I would have to rank him above everyone but Tim Rattay, Luke McCown, Colby Cameron, Terry Bradshaw and Matt Dunigan, in terms of talent and single season performances.
We had some really good QB's in the early 1970's too, when Tech went 44-4, and won a couple of NC's. But I don't think Denny Duron, or any of those guys had the stats to compare to Sokol.
This really gives me hope for Driskel, just vis-a-vis Holtz and co. finding a marginalized nobody and turning him into a monster.
Sokol was a stud QB in HS and in JuCo. He was very mature and worked his ass off when he got to LA Tech.
Jeff Driskel was a stud QB in HS. He is very mature and will likely work his ass off at LA Tech also. Plus Jeff gets the entire spring with the team, which Sokol wasn't able to do.
At football's most difficult position there is a WORLD of difference between the mentality of a Fr/So QB and a Graduate QB who is playing his final college season ever.
That's a good point. Driskel needs a KILLER year at LA Tech, in order to reach his NFL dream. And I'm sure he knows it.
It's a shame Sokol can't play at the next level. He strikes me as a guy who's got the brains, the measurables and tremendous accuracy. His only downside --and it's a doozy-- is his low arch delivery. (Remember all the passes Sokol had batted down at the line of scrimmage?) His delivery wasn't a big deal in college, but it would be in the NFL.
