So, Duke, UNC, Notre Dame and Louisville?

    Syracuse? UConn? Indiana? NC State

    Kansas

    Wisconsin?

    Arizona

    Stanford

    Michigan State

    UCLA

    Kentucky

    Florida

    Texas

How many is that? Sounds like it is creeping closer to 15.

Destination jobs, in my opinion, are ones where you wouldn't leave for any other job on the market. Those are few and far between. It may be more than four or five, but I definitely don't think many of the schools mentioned on this thread qualify. My destination jobs would be:

    Kentucky
    Duke
    North Carolina
    Indiana
    UCLA
Kansas (though Roy left, but for one of the other destination jobs)
    Arizona

There are many other really good or even great college basketball jobs. But I'm not sure any of them truly fit my narrow definition of a destination job.

I get what you are saying.

My list would add Michigan State, Syracuse, Louisville and NCState.

Texas ,Florida, Michigan and Ohio State and maybe Oregon have the power, money and prestige to make themselves destination jobs whenever they get ready to.

    Re: Tyndall out as Tennessee

If you look at the history of college basketball coaches, most coaches only get one shot at the big time. That shot is generally at a school where a rebuild is needed. Most of those coaches fail to rebuild and are fired.

Bruce Pearl was a winner at Tennessee but was fired due to violation of school policy after multiple NCAA violations. After the NCAA "show cause" period expired, he was hired by Auburn. His success at Auburn is far from certain. If he fails, he will get fired and, more than likely, end up in the broadcast booth or at a lower level school to finish his career.

The best kind of promotion is to get a job at one of the "destination" schools to replace a retiring/deceased coach. These programs generally don't hire from within. They hire a coach who has experienced success at another school, maybe even from their own conference.

Mike White does not have the resume to get a "destination" job now. His best opportunity for the "destination" job is to remain at Tech and have long-term success. IMO, we are on the verge of building something very special at Louisiana Tech.

It pains me to admit it, but I could not put NC State in the list. It is a quality job but also comes with very high expectations and plays third fiddle to two schools 30 miles away.

Which brings me to my next point,
    Go to Hell Carolina.

... and yet they find a way to compete when they get the right coach.

The same can be said for Michigan State, OK State, Arkansas, Virginia, Maryland, Syracuse, Illiniois, Florida. Given the right coach any can win a lot.

The six premier jobs are UCLA, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, Carolina, Indiana (maybe Louisville)
