Losing Wudtee is no big deal. Certainly he is very athletic and has raw talent. I recently asked a Parkway coach about him and he said Brandon Harris was better coming our of high school. As we all know Harris is setting the world on fire at LSU - and I don't think coaching is to blame for all of his woes. When after two season you cant go through your progressions or you consistently throw the ball inconsistently that's not all a "system" issue. At Tech any successful starter will need to be able to survey the field, go through his progressions and throw the ball accurately with consistency OR our offense looks awful as well. SO......are we really losing much in Wudtee? I personally think we will find another as good or better.
The sports chick on KTBS was excited. Thinks maybe LSU may look at him now.
Good old Memorial Gym
We already have a QB as good or better than Wudtee and maybe two. J'Mar Smith has the potential to be a great QB and Price Wilson is not far behind. I am really looking forward to the spring training battle for the no. 1 QB!
The "Big Mick" has spoken!!!
Colby was at Tech his whole career http://www.latechsports.com/sports/m...on_361142.html
Ironically, that's exactly what we did with Jake Hubenak. He walked on to Ok State and ran the scout team while red-shirting. He then transferred to Blinn JC, and lit up the junior college ranks, which caught the eye of the Texas Aggie coaches. Long story short, A&M has their two five-stars transfer out, and guess who will be starting for the Aggies in their bowl game coming up?
Jake Hubenak
Not sure I get why we would need a new coach. Mason Rudolph has started 14 games as a true FR and SOPH. In that time, he is 12-2 as the starter, with the two losses coming to Baylor. His wins include a Washington team that was stacked with "early rounders" on defense, Oklahoma in Norman, and TCU at home. In fact, Rudolph has engineered victories against every Big 12 team, except Baylor. He lost his chance to get Baylor this year, when he broke a bone in his foot in the first half.
We're going to follow the process of developing QBs, just like Baylor has been doing. One graduates, plug in the next guy.
Oh, and if Wudtee ends up being our third teamer, he could easily see playing time in his Freshman year, as injuries forced us to use third team guys in 2009, 2012 and 2014. In fact, Rudolph was our fourth-team guy when his red-shirt was pulled at the end of the 2014 season.
I'm sure Keondre will be told all about that.
Thanks coach. I hope all our time is devoted to developing someone already on the roster.
I disagree, the fact that both TCU & Oklahoma St are now looking at Tech's QB prospect makes it all the more important that the coaching staff does whatever is necessary to keep him. Those are big time programs who usually produce quality QBs so they know what they are doing
They are reaching though, because they lost the guys they evaluated as better QBs. This is the time of year when Tech gets hurt when the P5 teams start losing out on their recruits and resort to plan B and C. I think he's a fine QB and we would love to have him, but there are others. But we will now have to resort to our Plan B and C. It rolls downhill.
Apparently, we were talking to Wudtee as early as last June. We have only offered eight QBs, this year Of those eight, five are currently committed. The three that aren't committed are Nick Starkel that just decommitted from us, Wudtee who just decommitted from you, and Tony Poljan in Michigan, who we just offered on December 16th, three days before we offered Wudtee.
So we're not really reaching, since we have been talking to Wudtee (but not extending an offer) since early Summer. The reason we didn't offer, is because Starkel committed in March.
So we have three offers out by uncommitted recruits, with the first one that accepts getting the open slot. Highly unlikely that Starkel re-commits, and Poljan is getting a lot of love from Big 10 programs. So Wudtee looks like our best bet.
Speculation is, if we don't land one of these guys, we'll go for two QBs in 2017.

So you offered 6, lost out on 5, and then offered Wudtee and Poljan as Plan G and H? Wudtee's probably thinking, "Man, I played so good late in the season that Oklahoma State offered." But really, they couldn't land any of the 6 other guys they wanted so he'll do, I guess.... or Poljan... or maybe nobody this year.
There it is, folks. If Coach Mick says it's so, it's so. As a former NFL QB and long time coach, Coach Mick knows QB's. Just take Wudtee's scholarship and go get another future GREAT LA Tech athlete in his place! Wudtee will never be missed at Tech. Maybe he'll make a great DB at OSU.
