    Techspys Fan Voting Starts Today

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech fans interested in voting on the Male and Female Plays of the Year for the inaugural Techspys award show can do so starting today (Tuesday).
Louisiana Tech Athletics will roll out the blue carpet as it hosts the inaugural Techspys on Monday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Howard Auditorium located on the University campus.
The stars will be out that night as the Speedy Smiths, Kenneth Dixons, Whitney Fraziers and Katie Sloans of the Louisiana Tech Athletics world will be on hand for a night filled with honoring the best players, plays, comebacks and more from the past year.
A total of 14 awards will be presented at the event, including the team of the year, male and female athlete of the year, male and female freshman of the year, male and female performance of the year, male and female play of the year, comeback of the year, and more.
Fans have the opportunity to select both the Male and Female Plays of the Year by voting done through the LA Tech Athletics Facebook (/LATechAthletics) and Twitter (LATechSports) pages. To vote for your favorite play on Facebook, just “Like” the video. To vote for your favorite play on Twitter, just retweet the video.
Voting for the Female Play of the Year starts today and runs through Monday, April 20. The nominees are:
    • With a berth in the Conference USA Tournament on the line, Brittany Beddow came through in the clutch. Beddow’s game-winning Golden Goal in overtime in the 97th minute in the season finale against Florida Atlantic gave the Lady Techsters the victory and a spot in the league tournament.

    • It was the debut for first year head coach Tyler Summitt and freshman forward Tiara Davenport as LA Tech faced defending Southland Conference champion Stephen F. Austin. Davenport hit back-to-back three-pointers in the final two minutes of regulation to lead the Lady Techsters to the come-from-behind victory.

    • It was another outstanding effort by a LA Tech track and field star. Mia Adams captured gold medal at the 2015 Conference USA Indoor championships with a personal best of 20 feet, 1 inch, marking the sixth straight year the event was won by a Lady Techster.

    • With her team trailing by a run with two outs in the seventh, freshman Pauline Tufi launched a mammoth two-run home run and then got the final three outs in the circle lifting the Lady Techsters to a 3-2 win at Stephen F. Austin.
Voting for the Male Play of the Year starts Wednesday (April 15) and runs through Tuesday, April 21. The nominees are:
    • Kenneth Dixon left the Ragin Cajuns in his wake on a 99-yard touchdown run that led the Bulldogs to a 48-20 win over UL-Lafayette in September. The run set the school and Conference USA record for longest TD run.

    • Raheem Appleby posterized Western Kentucky forward George Fant on a baseline drive and dunk in the Bulldogs 69-56 win in Ruston and earned the No. 1 play on ESPN SportsCenter that night.

    • Jarvis Gotch recorded what was the No. 1 mark in the world in the long jump at the Vanderbilt Commodore Invitational as his mark of 26 feet, seven and three-quarters inches set the school record. He became only the 11th collegiate jumper to pass the 8-meter mark since 2010 and the first from a non-power 5 program.

    • When Illinois forced a Cody Sokol fumble midway through the fourth quarter in the Heart of Dallas bowl, it was Kenneth Dixon who came to the rescue. Dixon chased down the Illini defender from behind, stripped the football and recovered it deep in Tech territory. The play led directly to a TD drive as the Bulldogs defeated the Illini.

    • Trey Hadnot captured the 200-meters at the 2014 Conference USA Outdoor championships, marking the ninth straight year a Bulldog has won event. Hadnot’s time of 20.84 won gold medal and helped him advance to the NCAA championships in Eugene.

Louisiana Tech's very own Teddy Allen will serve as the master of ceremonies while various community and university dignitaries will present the awards throughout the evening. The night will also include performances by the Band of Pride, spirit squads and even some of the Louisiana Tech student-athletes.
The Techspys will be free and open to the general public while seating is available. Formal attire is requested.
