New Men's Rules for next season

    http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/...s-improve-game

Love some of these changes made that refs won't get the chance to mess up.
    30 sec shot clock
4 ft charge circle from 3
    Fewer time outs
Combination of media time outs with regular called ones
    Just a few I like.

The refs will still mess up the charge circle. It's like some refs just ignore it now.

45-second shot clock is ideal, for reasons discussed on this board before.

    But, why 30? Why not 24 like the NBA? 20! Or, let's try 15! Hurry....launch a three!!!

If basketball has become so boring to you you need to TRY to artificially make it interesting, then I submit the sport is doomed and should be discontinued.

Takes less time to play a game now. Better for ESPN, who runs the NCAA.

I like the 30-second shot clock AND the fewer timeouts. The number of timeouts in college basketball are absurd.

I've never known anyone who liked the 45 second shot clock for basketball -

And don't want to make it a mirror image of the NBA with the 24 second shot or the 6th foul rule...

Only those who like to watch girl's basketball would favor a 45 second shot clock.

I know I'm in the extreme minority here. Emphasis on the word here. But since the good players started jumping to the NBA so early, I have liked the NBA more than NCAA. Which is to say I'm MUCH more likely to watch two random NBA teams play than Seton Hall vs. Providence for example. The only exception is Tech Basketball. The 45 second clock was also a major reason for this. The other main reason, players leaving after their Fresh. year won't change but I really like the new rule changes. The TO rule is a nice step in the right direction as well. Hopefully we will see less 53-47 games now.

You don't think we can mess up the shot clock or the charge circle? You gotta give us more credit than that!

I love the idea of losing the media TO if a regular TO is taken within 30 seconds of a scheduled media TO. We've gone that way in the women's game, and it's basically eliminated the double timeout.

You do realize that women's basketball has a 30-second shot clock, right? The men's game is slower than the women's! The 30-second clock works great in the women's game. Teams get into their offense quickly, run their sets and we rarely have shot clock violations. I'm hopeful moving to 30 for the men's game will cut off 5 seconds of standing around at the top of the key and dribbling.

    No. Also, no interest whatsoever.

Re: New Men's Rules for next season

Glad I had already lost interest in basketball. So, for me, this trend toward stupid rules is basically irrelevant. I don't watch much of it anyway, any more. BUT! objectively, this is just another example of the "instant gratification" movement. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! OH GAWD!!! please don't have some guy dribbling the ball for more than 3 seconds between shots!!! SHOOT the Ball! No.... "score the basketball" whatever the hell that means.

How about this, outlaw defense! No one is allowed to play defense. The shot clock is set at 5 seconds. Each team inbounds and must beat the clock. And then, in the last 2 mins of the game, each team is allowed to inbounds under the goal. If they don't blow the layup, each team is guaranteed to score every time!

    Y'all can have it...

Re: New Men's Rules for next season

I don't know if you are saying that defense is obsolete because of the shot clock, but that appears to be what you are implying.

The great teams still play great defense even in the NBA. The fact that there are more points scored is just a product of more attempts being forced because of the shorter possessions. The changes are more for the instant gratification fans. I could care less what type of ball a team plays as long as it is good, fundamental basketball.

The only thing that concerns me about the Konkel hire is style of play turning off the casual fan and the athletic recruit. So the 30 second clock may actually help us in that regard.
