If there was a suitable replacement for UAB, voting them out would have already been done. They will get 0 for football this year but may make it up if they go to the NCAA BB Tourny and win some rounds. If they field a FBS FB team in 2016 and play a conference schedule they will get there share. I hope they are on Tech's schedule the next couple of years for Homecoming. They are going to be scary bad until 2020.

After a few years of mediocrity their new found support will go away and they'll return to their usual state.
Kind of what I'm thinking. They've made it clear that support from the school/state is limited and defined. So they're giving them some rope, but if fan support falters, they've hung themselves.

I don't think so. If UAB wants football to work with a $30 MM budget, they can make it work with such "limited" resources. There is a lot of fat UAB can trim if they so choose. UAB didn't even try. Look at all their chartered flights and fancy dining. Deciding to pay their MBB coach a $1 MM base salary is another example of a poor allocation of resources. There's no telling what else UAB is wasting money on. It's laughable that their admin acts like $30 MM is not enough money to support championship level football and basketball programs. We've proved you can win C-USA championships in FB and MBB with a $19 MM budget. Yet somehow $30 MM isn't enough for UAB to even compete? UAB needs to focus their efforts on improving their football facilities and trimming fat, not increasing their operating budget.
This is like cruel and unusual punishment for the UAB fans. We'll kill your program...wait, no. We'll just maim it so that the marginal success in your best years is impossible to recreate.
