USA 2 Honduras 1
Lackluster effort. But a win is a win.
The 3 favorites, yep, no doubt. With Honduras the most likely 4th best in CONCACAF. But last night, we got out-played. Honduras "won" the run-of-play. Of course, like stats in other sports, it doesn't matter vs. the scoreboard, which is all that does. But, there should be concern about the USA after last night. We were lethargic. Won't beat either CR or Mex with an effort like that.
Missed it.
I watched it from midfield stripe last night that wasn't a case of playing down to the competition, that was a case of physically and mentally not playing well regardless of who was across the pitch. I won $20 on Altidore though, I bet he would be out of the game by the 60th minute. He lost almost every 50/50 ball, while Wondo didn't really get into the offense, plays smart taking position on 50/50's that undercut the defender. More ball were either won or he undercut the defense and the balls made it up field. Guzan played well and Zardes played with the most hustle even though he was kind of thrown out of position.
The ref was bad and Honduras took advantage of the lack of calls playing about as physical games as I have seen them play. I don't think that line up will start together again, there will be some changes that hopefully will help the chemistry.
We sucked!
Honduras is a "good" team. Not great, or even "very good" on international terms, but good. They were (are) good enough to qualify for the WC, and then get spanked in pool play by elite teams. In CONCACAF they are 4th best.
That said, the USA looked horrible the other night. Problem with both Dempsey and Altidore is they are LAZY! I don't like either one, really. Dempsey spends half the match on the ground....adjusting his socks and crying to the ref someone kicked him in the ankle. Jozy....I dunno. He's just kind of "out there" looking at cloud formations, I guess. Then, every so often, they (both of them) get inspired and score a goal. Forget about applying high pressure with those two up there.
Michael Bradley is being played out of position. Klinnsman can't seem to grasp that MB is a holding midfielder, one of the best in the world, and keeps playing him forward. Where he is not effective.
Honduras out played us. We were fortunate to escape with 3 points. Next up is Haiti, Friday. We SHOULD crush them. But will probably turn in another uninspired performance and escape with a "W."
I didn't write this article:

but could have.
USA 1 Haiti 0
Uninspired performance, escaped with a "W."
Out shot 21-6. Lost TOP %. Out-played (again). Michael Bradley started as holding midfielder, and stunk it up. Haiti was slicing thru our defense, straight thru Bradley all night long. I give up....
Hoping for a draw with Panama. A win? Yeah, that would be nice, but Pan has more motivation in this game, something to play for. The US is already thru to the quarterfinals.
BTW, it's not like they stacked the deck against us (US), eh. The Group of Death....again!
In the 12-team CONCACAF the pre Gold Cup rankings were:
2. USA
4. Honduras
5. Panama
9. Haiti
The other groups:
3. Mexico
8. Trindad & Tobago
11. Guatemala
12. Cuba
1. Costa Rica
6. Jamaica
7. Canada
10. El Salvador
Ya think they wanted to make sure both Mex and CR advanced? Of course, CR is struggling mightily. Too bad...
USA 1 Panama 1
Ugh!
We just suck. Not a knock on Panama, per se. But we're just not playing a good brand of soccer. Can't keep the ball. No continuity. The back line, the midfield, and the forwards are just out there. Looks like our Sunday afternoon pick-up games (I used to play...). There is no overall tactics to build from the back, change fields, nada! It's all adlib amateurish play. Michael Bradley has been a major disappointment. Yeah, he scored a goal last night. But he loses the ball, makes lousy passes....can't hold the ball. What's the use of a "holding" midfielder who can't hold the ball? Not to mention, he's been little help to the defense.
Quarterfinals this weekend. First up USA vs. Cuba. Cuba has lost 4 players and a coach to defections. Maybe one of you libtards can explain why anyone would want to leave the ultimate libtard haven of Cuba. It's the perfect commie setup. Everything libtards dream of, and want to turn the US into. Can't understand why people flee such "perfection." Well, that's best discussed on the political forum.

Cuba was ranked dead last in the pre-tourney power ratings, but they managed to advance. The USA should make short work of 'em, but our guys have struggled so far in this tourney. Gonna say we get it done today, 2-0. Nothing spectacular.
USA 6 Cuba 0
That's the Cuba we all know and love....
Better by the US. Looked more fluid. But, opponent had a lot to do with that.
