Great tactic by US coach today! Germany defense actually is not that good - too slow.

Awesome! Always seems like it is dinner time, play time, or bath time with my kids when the women take the pitch.

    DEFENSE!

Germany had scored 20 goals in this tourney in 5 games. They got ZILCH! against us. We have played 6 games, 12 halves, that is now 11 straight shut-out halves. Just two more and we are likely WC Champions.

Got a lil lucky tonite with the ref's calls. Still we dominated the game and would have won, but just shows ya how fast things can change in this game. Johnston, who has anchored the defense, had a brain fart for just an instant, and bam! Fortunately, the German gal missed the penalty kick. First miss for Germany EVER in the WC. They had been a perfect 18 for 18. But....donk! Sorry.

This just might be our year....

We had several opportunities to score in the first half. WE controlled the ball the entire first half. It was a good game and well coached IMHO.

Major Ouch! for England. Tough way to lose...anytime...but especially in a WC semi-final.

So now it's a rematch of the 2011 Final, USA vs. Japan

England 1 Germany 0 in the 3rd Place match. Kind of surprised by that. The Germans looked flat/uninterested.

Tonite is for all the marbles. Get it done, USA.

Okay, that was fun. My first complete game to watch...

    - We gave Japan's 2nd goal to them on a fluke delection. Does that happen often?
    - The free kick that came just before the 2nd goal was a call on what looked like "a flop" by the Japan player. I remember hearing that happens a lot.
    - What is the deal with the extra minute before half and how many before the game ends?

Deflections for a goal do happen often from what I have seen.

Flops are a major part of the game, especially on the men's side. Dennis Rodman would be proud. IMO, I think it plays a role in soccer not being a top sport in the U.S.

Stoppage time is nuts and I wish they would get rid of it. Start the clock at 90 and run it backwards. When time is up, game over.

Many things are credited to being part of the pageantry of the beautiful game. A lot of that should be legislated out.

It is still a great game when the play is skilled and up tempo.

Thanks. So the extra time is to make up for stoppage time?
