Thought everyone knew that.
Back in the 70's I remember being told Ruston was the wealthiest town in a multi-state area, including LA, Miss, Ark, and Bama.
Good ole Natchitoches is 237th on that list. But then Natch always votes democrap in every election. obummer carried the City of Natch, as did Landrieu. You are what you vote for.
I remember it being named the most educated and wealthiest per capita in the 80's, but didn't know it still held true.
Old Eager Eagle will loved that stat. "Dogpatch", as he calls Ruston, is doing quite well, thank you.
That's good news. It shows that Tech is the economic driver of the region but it also kinda points to the lack of a large diversity of industry and commerce. With a smallish population, the per capita number is skewed somewhat, but so what?!
Why don't I feel any of that wealth?
It's time to close the doors to the Temple of Janus.
There is a ridiculous amount of poverty in Ruston also, and most people have no idea how much or how bad.
Too true. My first job after undergrad was as a sales manager for a local "lease purchase" furniture/electronics/appliance company. I spent a lot of my days in the lower income side of Ruston, and suffice to say some areas are the lowest of the low.
I looked over the whole list in the link 110 posted and noticed just how poor north central and northeast Louisiana really is.. I always knew that, but never really saw numbers in comparison with the rest of the state. Kind of shocking.
You It is quite shocking. Ruston isn't bad compared to many parishes. There are "neighborhoods" in Ruston that look literally like war zones. Before Ruston goofed up the school zoning, there was CC and AEP at 0% free or reduced lunch obviously, hillcrest at 67%, and every other school at 97% or more.
I knida doubt Choudrant is actually where they have them on the list...
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
Some absolutely desperate poverty within a quarter mile of Tech campus.
Not to change the subject, but ... those who sometimes cite Independence Stadium's location in some sort of poverty-stricken ghetto wasteland as a justification for never playing there again really show their ignorance of the full picture in Ruston.
An elementary age boy crawled under his porch and up through a hole in the floor...because that's how they get in and out of their home.
And they are lucky to have one.
There are children whom go to school with broken teeth and toes worn through the ends of their "shoes."
the area of Mound has really grown since that 2010 census
