I know a bunch of letterman from the 40s, 50s and 60s and it was always Lah Tech with them and these guys are names everyone would know and recognize....
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
Dawg06, who have you heard say ell aye tech? I've heard one guy..he was from Michigan and knew us by way of Tramon Williams. He said ell aye tech. I was just glad he had heard of us and didn't correct him.
Come on 70TECHGRAD back in our day when someone asked us where we were going to school we normally just said TECH. I guess if you were from out of state you would put the state in front, but most (~90-95%) were from Louisiana. Later when we had graduated and they asked us where we went to school we might add the state if we lived outside Lousiana. In Louisiana there is only one TECH so no need to say lah or ell ay tech. My preference, if I want to shorten it is lah tech, but I generally say Louisiana Tech.
Our local media on numerous occasions. That's what started the pushback against "LA Tech" a few years ago. After I documented it here that our local sportscasters like Tatum Everett and Brady Renard were saying El Ay Tech, that's when our athletic department started adding a pronunciation guide to our media guides and game notes. Recruits on several occasions on BTB's videos. Callers into sports talk radio in Ruston and Shreveport. People in conversation with me. Heck, our alumni association even does it on their radio commercials. We frequently get called El Ay Tech because that's exactly what our admin is asking for by trying to brand us as "LA Tech" and the horrid "LATech." Nobody is gonna scour our media guides to see how to pronounce "LA Tech" and "LATech." When you have to tell people how to say "LA Tech" and "LATech," you've created a problem. People are gonna say it how they see it. Instead of correcting Dooley's mistake, our admin has dug their heels in.
To me, "Lah" Tech is acceptable form. "L, A" Tech is not. We should look at the shortname branding of LaTech (example UConn, UMass, Bama, Cal Poly, etc).
All of this discussion is too late.
For those interested in order of games--players on the tickets-- Kentrell Brice-- Vontarrius Dora-- Jeff Driskell ( who is competing for starting qb spot (wink)-Vernon Butler-Paul Turner--Kenneth Dixon, who will set NCAA career td record on 11/28/15 against South Miss .
We should all just say "TECH" and that would end it. And if someone asks which tech...say Louisiana Tech.
