Bayou Classic Up Big

• NBC scored a 0.7 final rating and 1.0 million viewers for the Grambling/Southern Bayou Classic college football game last Saturday, up 40% in ratings and 61% in viewership from last year (0.5, 620K) and flat and up 2%, respectively, from 2012 (0.7, 983K).

Those are horrible ratings for network TV.

With all due respect to the Tigers and the Jags, this new arrangement moving to NBCSports cable network is a demotion.

It is NOT NBC Sports and all its "free" affiliates.

Of course, they may not have had a better offer and had to take it. Filling in that Thanksgiving weekend slot on the Notre Dame football lineup has been gold for GSU and SU. Not anymore.

And why do GSU and SU want to play their silly "classic" on the same day the FCS playoffs begin? Oh, I know why! They would get their clocks cleaned, be one and done every year, just like the SWAC did for years. And so they schedule a regular season game on that Saturday to give an excuse why they can't enter the playoffs....and get their asses kicked every year.

Really. Those are horrible ratings for network TV. Live sports ratings should never drop below a 1% share on network TV. Something's gone badly wrong if it does.

Our WAC games against Boise State, Nevada, Hawai'i, etc. on cable TV beat all of those Bayou Classic ratings that had the advantage of network TV. Our game vs. Nevada on ESPN2 beat an MLB pennant race being broadcast simultaneously on ESPN.

What are you talking about? You obviously still don't understand the difference between network TV and cable TV.

You visit our message board to start an irrelevant thread boasting about your classic game with Grambling because you fell for the SWAC spin that it's some sort of great deal with great viewership when the game is actually being removed from network TV due to very poor viewership over the last decade. Then you with your senseless attitude try to turn it into smack against us. I disagree with ITdrummer because you've tried to insult Tech at every opportunity, and I think you've overstayed your welcome on our board.
