The Problem With LA Tech Athletics

Go to the very first page of "Bulldawg Barks & Bites" how many LA Tech sports threads are there before "General Sports"? There are 4. Football, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball and Baseball. Clearly you can see where all of the focus is. Men's sports. But that's not the only issue, there are even many men's sports that didn't even make it to the Threads.

Forget the fact that LA Tech has a female who participated in the last Olympics and is well on her way to Rio in 2016, yet where is the LA Tech Track & Field tab? Doesn't it deserve to be on the front page.

How about other sports that LA Tech has that claim to be "highly" competitive...like Volleyball, Softball, Soccer, & Tennis. What makes these teams unworthy of equal representation? Because they aren't football? Because some of them are women's sports?

Not to mention the lack of concern for women's sports is seen as bad coaches and role models are still holding positions within the department. As a former student, former LA Tech athlete and a former worker in the athletic department the fact that it is CLEARLY still this way is really disheartening.

People made such a big deal over the difference monetarily between FIFA Women's World Cup and the Men's World Cup, but no one cares about the gender difference in sport support, both financially & w/ exposure that continues to happen today in college sports. LA Tech is just another number in the countless schools guilty of it today...

Get lost...Volleyball? Softball? Soccer? Tennis?? Not fun to watch at all. They produce no revenue.

You do realize this website is not run by Louisiana Tech Athletics in any way, shape, or form? We, the fans, keep it up and running and can segregate the sports threads as we like.

Right now the official Tech site, latechsports.com, has the following stories in the main rotation 4 FB (2 each from last two days of fall camp), 1 Womens Soccer, 1 Women's BB, 1 Women's Tennis, and 1 Mens Baseball. Right now football dominates because it is really the only thing going on with preseason/fall camp...

Also, we haven't been "highly" competitive in Volleyball, Softball, or Tennis and it's just this past year that we had a good showing in Soccer... and since you're so outraged, what about Women's Bowling or Cross Country?

And leading upto and during the Olympics there were plenty of stories on LaTechSports.com about Chelsea Hayes.

    Threads on Chelsea Hayes

    http://www.latechbbb.com/forum/showthread.php?107290-Chelsea-Hayes-2012-USA-Olympian-(-Lady-Techster-Track-and-Field-)

I'm just confused, are you mad at BB&B cause we don't segregate the sports as you'd like, looking on the official site all sports are equally represented in the pulldown tab...

Yeah, discussion boards are driven by discussion. Every year, we get complaints by the big basketball fans that we're more interested in football than basketball. But we're going to talk about what we're interested in talking about. I don't even know how you could make someone discuss bowling or track (which I'm a fan of personally, but we don't get a lot of threads about because it's not as interesting to most as a topic as say, next year's football schedule or starting QB speculation.

BB&B is about Tech. And most of us support and cheer for all things Tech. But we just mostly like to talk about football, and sometimes basketball (the Lady Techsters forum has a lot of posts).

TIL that university level olympic sports aren't as popular as men's college football and basketball. What a revelation...

OP apparently has an issue with our women's soccer coach.

Re: The Problem With LA Tech Athletics

Seems like another young person (no disrespect to any of our students or young alumni this is a generalization I see from teaching the last 15 years) that didn't get their way while at Tech. They feel like they were wronged, in this case, it seems by coach Sherry. This probably stems from being replaced on the team, etc... part of a situation created by never letting our children fail or struggle. So when faced with adversity they lash out instead of buckling down. They make vague statements, and act incredulous when they don't find support, but rarely are willing to provide solid arguments, or facts to back their case up. Then to top it off if they are proven wrong by facts etc... default insults, names, and the one I hear often, "you are part of the problem".

I may be wrong and would be glad to be, but three threads and three posts, two directly pointed at one man, then a very basic and general blast at the university for gender inequality?? On a site not run by the university, but by fans.

please provide some specifics and maybe you will find some support.
