    Congratulations to LaTech Nursing!

100% of the Winter and Spring Quarter nursing classes passed the NCLEX-RN exam. There are 4-year programs that didn't come close to doing as well as our 2-year program students. CONGRATULATIONS to all the new RN's!

It's high time Tech got a 4-year nursing program, an advanced degree, and sufficient faculty to expand the program. The demand is there. We get more applicants for nursing school than Tech has room.

You know very well that will never happen regardless of demand.

Now would be the time with the program down the road in absolute shambles but the powers in BR say they are committed to reviving it. Pure politics since the better choice would be to enhance Tech's program.

NSU has added a PhD program in their nursing school. NSU already has a good (best in the state?) nursing program, that serves north La. Why should Tech's be expanded? Actually, shouldn't Tech's be phased out in favor of further funding NSU's? Isn't that the call here, eliminating duplicate programs? In fact, the clarion call on this forum has been to not only eliminate duplication, but to eliminate entire universities!

Well....that means in some cases it has to be Tech giving up something.

You never fail to find the flawed logic in every discussion.

Actually the region still has a shortage of RNs. Quality programs turning out RNs are needed, and Tech being a 2 yr. program helps get these students out quickly.

Our school's have different missions as determined by the BOR. NWST is a regional university to serve northwest Louisiana. Tech is a national university with a mission to serve the entire state. LSU, Tech, ULL, and UNO should be able to offer programs in any discipline, and none should be at the associate's level.

mainly because there aren't enough nursing school slots statewide and Tech turns away more applicants than it accepts. NWSt has a great program but one nursing program in N. LA isn't enough just like one business program wouldn't be enough.

I'm sure you know this, but NSULA isn't the only program in north Louisiana. ULM has a Baccalaureate Nursing program as well.

NSU's program would grow, not remain static.

So, where/how would the state save money, you ask? In the elimination of the administration. Several high-paid positions and several admin assistants positions would be eliminated. As well as other admin costs associated with operating a program.

More importantly the increase in NSU's college of nursing budget, concentrated NOT in upper management, but in faculty and services/equipment allows the school to offer even better learning opportunities for students.
