    Re: Duck Season 2015-2016

I was deer hunting this past week, but on the stand I heard 3 flights of green heads and a couple flights of gadwalls. Last year at this time I couldn't think for them. I guess the ones that are here have many more options on where to land. No shortage of squealers though.

looks like I'm either gonna have to get a bigger dog or they'll have to start using smaller ribbons.
I just saw your retriever pic of that great looking dog! There are some National award winning ones raised by Dan Hurst here in Tyler as well.

    Re: Duck Season 2015-2016

Worst duck season I can recall, and I've had some bad ones... Nobody I know in NE LA or SE Ark has had significant numbers of birds all year. The few that have killed them, it's been here today gone tomorrow. I suspect this season will cause numerous hunters that pay big money for blinds to get out. It's THAT bad. Blame El Niño, blame refuges, blame low gas prices, blame Obama. Blame whoever, but it ain't good. And I honestly can't see it getting a whole lot better this last month of the season. But I'll still be chasing them.

This season has been a complete bust. I am thinking about giving up my lease and doing a couple Midwest trips for ducks. The quantity and quality is at a 24 year low for us.

It's been bad for sure. I normally hear thousands of shots where I hunt in Tensas. There are days now that I cant remember hearing a single shot . Very strange year indeed.

Leaving extra early after an extensive scouting trip. Going full ghillie suit/commando and camo layout otter boat to the farthest part of our place. Only going to use a few HD decoys and leaving the calls at home. I'm mad at em now.

How much unfrozen water and food do y'all think there is between here and Canada? I'd guess a much higher than normal amount before the last few weeks of heavy rains in the flyway.

Thanks, she been a joy to have, just turned a year. I had gone back and forth about whether to do the force fetch myself or have someone do it for me. Decided to do it myself, figured in a way I owed it to her to go through it with her. We both survived and although it aint perfect, she does the job. She's a firecracker and there might be labs as fast as her out there on the retrieve and return but there is none faster. Really wanted to start her on a beaver pond or creek but there has been near zero wood ducks on the creek. we've had a real lack of ducks at the lease south of mer rouge as well. hope something changes by the last two weeks of January.

A group of us are on two leases (that adjoin each other) in Lake Village, AR. It's our first year on these leases and in the SE Arkansas are and will almost certainly be our last. It's been beyond bad....like 40 ducks total.
