Wow. I can't remember a coach getting fired one week before the season.

Beckman sounds like my high school coach from the mid 60's. If you told him you were hurt, you better have some broken bones showing or gushing blood. If you could walk, you could practice and play.

Is he from up that way? I would expect Illinois will promote from within, however. It would be quite funny if @ Lafayette's HC ran out on them this week. Couldn't happen to a better bunch. On the other hand, it would give them an excuse when Tech slices their pepper in October. That and those pesky 6 plays.
I expect they will have to wait until the end of the season to get a new coach. I wouldn't want a coach that would quit on his team at this point. Even if there was an unemployed coach available he would just screw things up right now.
