I think we should only hire individuals whose loyalty is exclusive to Tech.

We need more homoTechsuals on our staff.

This is not a big deal, guys. I highly doubt this is some sort of ULL espionage mission to torpedo our marketing efforts. Let's not make a mountain out of this mole hill.
    We have marketing efforts?

Shouldn't she sacrifice a lamb or something to pledge her faith to Tech? Not sure what the policy is on this...

Good post, Champ. Your hiring experience is showing. Your first line is particularly true. And THAT's the part that many hiring managers screw up. The "best qualified" candidate (maybe has the most sterling credentials) isn't always the best fit for the job or the team.

What is needed is someone that is a sports marketing outsider that has zero experience in sports marketing.

Very well said. I assumed "fit" was part of anyone's hiring equation, that it went without saying. If I may ask, on what are your reservations based?

You are exactly right. As I implied in an earlier post, having a "banned" list of schools from which we won't hire is stupid. We should hire the best qualified applicant. If she turns out to be good at her job, perhaps having someone from the region is a wise move. It could stop the revolving door of people from "somewhere else."

A bigger concern of mine is if we overlook Tech grads in the name of "diversity" (of educational background). The Athletic Dept. should not consist of only Tech grads, but I would like to see a balance that helps maintain historical and cultural contexts.
A lot of Tech people leave or don't try to come here because they give up their career upward mobility to be here.

Re: New ASST. AD for Marketing

I welcome anyone to the position that can get a couple of "naming-right" deals, a couple of large "national" corporate sponsors, and finally maybe get us to where we at least equal the amount of merchandise on the market of Grambling (at the Ruston Walmart) and carry a little in Monroe & Shreveport. Let's be honest here, the bar is pretty low for this position.

Largely the ones expressed by Dawg06 toward the top of the thread.

I expect a sports marketing professional, from Louisiana no less, to be cognizant of the illegal "UL" moniker, and a conscientious person to forego participating in something they (should) know is wrong.
