Top 35 RB units, no Dixon/Craft/Martin?

Athlon Sports ranked their top 35 RB unit rankings, Dixon/Craft/Martin no where to be found. Marshall and WKU units came in at #25 and #26. Thoughts?

WKU's rushing stats last night against the mighty SEC team, Vandy: 22-38. 22 rushes for 38yds.

I think Isabella wrote an article last week pointing out how Dixon isn't getting the national respect he deserves. Coming out of the Spring, I thought Craft is the MOST improved player on the team. There is no way Marshall and WKU should be considered better with their corps of running backs than we are.
    Have you considered those Dogs?

This is the theme for this team. Respect! The program is not getting it, the top returning rusher in the country is not getting it, the number 1 QB in the country four years ago isn't getting it. This team has a huge chip on their shoulders coupled with losses last year that they are constantly reminded of. Slit throats, kick em in the ditch, and JFW!

It's weird because even though we NEVER get ANY recognition from national media, Dixon is at the top of so many statistical lists. You'd think his name would at least cross the radar.

The key word in this thread is unit. Craft finished with less that 300 yrds. rushing last season. The problem is not with Dixon but with the supporting cast.

Exactly. Our RB "unit" IS Kenneth Dixon to the national media. They have no idea who we have coming up behind him.

What other LSU player besides Fournette put up significant rushing numbers last season?

    For comparison
    • Marshall returns 2 of their top 3 RBs. Their 2015 RB depth of Johnson/Watson/Pittman combined for 2279 yds in 2014 (313 att. 7.2 per carry).
    • WKU returns 2 of top 3 RBs. Their 2015 RB depth of Allen/Wales/Ferby combined for 354 att. for 2060 yds in 2014 (354 att. @ 5.8 per) in 2014
    • Tech returns top 3 RBs. Our 2015 RB depth of Dixon/Craft/Martin combined for 1788 yards in 2014 (367 att. @ 4.9 per).
    On the other hand
    • UNC, for instance, loses their leading rusher and returns only 2 of their top 3 RBs, who combined for 841 yards in 2014 (186 att. @ 4.5per)
    • LSU, returns 1 of their top 3 RBs, and their 2015 depth of Fournette/Williams/Guice combined for 1336 yards (252 att. @ 5.3per)
An article like this is really about the feature backs -- eg. Johnson, Allen, Fournette. To me, Athlon is basically saying that Dixon is not a top 35 RB (and somehow 1 or 2 unknown RBs at UNC are??).

For argument's sake, if Dixon is individually a top 20 RB -- and surely he is -- would having an unknown or less than stellar backup really bump the unit from the top 35?

Exactly. 2 of LSU's top 3 RBs graduated -- 1000+ yards gone. Tech returns all 3 of its top RBs, and one's arguably top 15 or 20 in the nation!!

But your post was about no way Marshall and WKU should be considered as having a better corp of running backs.

    Here's the numbers comparing Marshall:

Marshall (Johnson & Butler) 2,565 yards total 8.02 yards per carry avg.
Louisiana Tech (Dixon & Craft) 1,593 yards total 4.34 yards per carry avg.

Since you asked about LSU, McGee, as the team's no. 2 running back, put up a very respectable 571 yards. This is with sharing ball carrying duties with both Hilliard and Williams who had 447 and 302 yards respectively.
