What happen to the defense. Very disappointed to have the best DB backfield in a long time to get shredded to pieces by the western qb. This has been embarrassing and holtz needs to assess how the "no fly zone" defense turned into the "come fly with me" defense
We need accountability for the lack of presence and loss of focus on that side of the ball
DC said he was keeping 80% of our defense from last season. Looks like he threw out the most important 20%.
We have no time for coaches to be learning on the job in key positions
Agreed. We haven't looked this bad on defense in quite some time, which is completely unacceptable considering the talent we have at multiple key positions.
I watched Barnes and Woods chasing receivers all night and whiffing on tackles all night. Our defense lost this game, primarily our game plan (lack of blitz early) and poor secondary play.
We are a liability right now in the secondary
We had no answer for WKU passing game. Our blitzes were weak and too infrequent. Their QB is too good to play him the way we did.

My thoughts on Baker was that he did not instill the importance of tackling and focus on that. That is the 10% of Diaz's philosophy that served as the baseline last year. We have 9 days to fix those mistakes versus KS. If Baker can work on making tackles (not arms only & not being susceptible to juking) then we should be in better shape.
On a positive note, I was happy to see that we were able to drive the field well.
The DB's had to cover for much longer than they did last year. Our DL got absolutely no pressure on the QB. Last year we had big plays on blitzes, but the DEs getting pressure were the key on the majority of plays. We had no rush off the ends, especially early on.
I even felt like a few play were taken off by the secondary. Literally loafing....plus the scheme was just horrid. Fix that and I think we will be fine this year. We have a good team
