Is it all the rage these days? Just wondering.
no - it is stupid in baseball.....just stupid
I assume it is about cost, maintenance, and weather situations. Tradition can be expensive, but not always practical. Thanks to those who paid for this!
Selfishly, I do not like/want it...I really trust our current coaching staff to turn this program around. So, I'm sure they have thought this through a ton, and if they think they need it, then I'll support it. Does anyone know where the funding is coming from? If we had a 40 man field crew like other schools, we would probably keep the grass. When your coaching staff is completely responsible for the field, it takes from coaching. I'm sure the time issue was the main factor.

Think about this from a recruiting standpoint...our ground crew is the team.
I don't really care. If they do it first class and it looks good, thumbs up for me. I assume some of that time could now be spent on coaching and recruiting.
Faster track but no more bad hops so fielding percentages should go up, right? I personally think the bases and mound should always be dirt. Who wants to slide on brown turf
Going off topic. I found our doppelganger stadium.

Maybe for the infield. One of my most embarrassing moments was playing at Arkansas on turf. I was in LF and I was between running up to make the catch or letting it drop in front of me and I decided to let it drop. The ball bounced about 10 feet over my head and the guy got an inside the park HR.
I love putting in the turf. As a former player this will help tremendously in recruiting. Maybe we can make a run at Jake Slaughter now.
