Well, we missed our chance when we were the Industrial Institute and College of Louisiana. If we'd kept that, then when everybody went from a college to a university, we'd be officially University of Louisiana. Take that, ULL.

I started at TECH in the Fall of 1970 and had a student job working for the Director of Libraries, Sammy Dyson.
The name change from LPI to Louisiana TECH University had just happen. I remember reading a long memorandum issued that Fall by Dr. Taylor instructing faculty and staff that in referring to the University the only correct references to be use were "Louisiana Tech," "TECH" and "Louisiana Tech University." Apparently some stationery had been generated with the acronym "LTU" and Dr. Taylor wanted to nip that practice in the bud. Dr. Taylor noted, with a historian's view, that the school at the Ruston campus had always been identified as "Louisiana Tech" or "TECH," and the change of the official name to "Louisiana Tech University" was not to step away from that practice. Dr. Taylor was also concerned that the public would confuse "LTU" with "LSU."
