Our coach is trying to tell us it was just one or two plays. He has been saying this for three years. Coach your special teams coach SUCKS! Get him out of there!

    On special teams:
“When you are dealing with 18- to 22-year-old young men, sometimes they are going to make mistakes. Nobody feels worse than the guy that missed the block. It is nothing we haven’t seen before. It was not a scheme thing, it was an execution thing. He knew it was on him. That is where the ownership on special teams comes in. We have a lot of freshmen and true sophomores on special teams to get them some experience. Some of our veteran guys who are playing 50 and 60 plays on offense or defense have an opportunity to rest. In gaining experience, you are going to make mistakes. We have to learn from them and grow from them. That is why I have always said that you play non-conference games to be able to make some mistakes so you are ready to go on the conference run. What we have done to this point statistically is irrelevant. It is what we do going forward.”

He had a 55 yard punt that went out on the 1, a 40 yard punt angled to the sideline with no return and a 48 yard punt with just a few yards on the return. His avg for the game was 47.7. That's pretty damn good if you ask me. Our problems on special teams seem to be way more about blocking schemes and assignments than personnel.
WTH? So who punted the 22 yarder???

I don't know that we've returned a kick past the 35 all year. Dancy consistently makes bad decisions but he starts every game. Maybe there's nobody better.

Punting has flashes of good followed by crap.

Kicking game is much better today.

On kick off returns Tech used to do a reverse many times or they would fake a reverse. If I remember correctly, we had many big yardage returns, but I can't remember how many did not work out? One of the recently posted links showed a review on kick return (by Jason Davis?). Some may say it's a gimmick, but if it works...

Every other football team in America has special teams as well, and theirs doesn't suck as bad as ours. The freshman and sophomore excuse is a Jack Bicknell type of excuse. Then put all seniors on there...JUST IMPROVE IT, DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Fortunately, the TD was called back against MS St., Southern ran one back on us, who else??? By making those lame ass excuses, he isn't taking ownership.

I'm with Rooster on this. There's no reason why we can't have kick/punt coverage teams within at least the top 50 percent of the nation. Our awesome experience and talent in the defensive backfield (according to what I've read) fills half a squad then throw in Blake Martin and the best of the rest.
