Surprised no one noticed what happened around the 5:00 mark of the 3rd when they reviewed the 4th down pass that came up a yard short. They actually gained 11 yards on that series and were still a yard short. The series started on MTSU's 46 and they made it to the Tech 43 and were still a yard short. When the MTSU QB scrambled on 3rd down, he took out the chain gang and when they set back up, they moved two yards downfield. The MTSU receiver ran his route to the 1st down marker on the Tech sideline and made it by a yard. He was shocked to look to the other side of the field and see he was a yard short. When they officials blew the whistle to look at it, the chain gang slyly shuffled back to their original position that would make it a first down. But the oblivious replay official just looked to see if the pass was spotted correctly and compared it to the bad chain gang position. I just watched the ASN replay after being at the game and was surprised they weren't talking about it. If they had driven it down to make it 35-17 it may not have mattered, but who knows.

Thanks for explaining. I couldn't figure out what happened. Dave and Teddy couldn't either. I did think we got a break, but it was very confusing.

Ooh I forgot to bitch about Butler's scoop and score that wasn't because the ref blew the play dead as soon as he grabbed the runner.

In comparison to when they almost let MTSU drag Dixon 50 yards to the end zone.

The refs knew they wouldn't get Dixon off his feet.

Made up for the crappy spot on their FG drive. Later in that drive Holtz fussed about a 1/2 yd difference at the 5, but he shoulda called a TO on that 4th down play. The replay booth would have changed the spot and it woulda been Tech's ball.
