Last game russdawg, Sportsdawg and 2 sons sat with me on 50 yard line student side. Zero folks other than us in upper section. Security made us put umbrella up. Both boys got soaked. So is their an ordinance against common sense??

Here are the official rules:
The following is a list of other items prohibited from Joe Aillet Stadium:Inside stadium security did not wrong. They were enforcing rules decided by the athletic department. Selective enforcement of rules allowing some people to use umbrellas and others not would be a disaster. Bring a poncho or rain suit to the game.
- Coolers, ice chests, bottles, cans, cups or containers of any kind
- Outside food and drinks
- Umbrellas
- Any type of artificial noise makers
- Pets of any variety (except for service animals)
I'm sure he would be fine with an a few people using umbrellas as long as they were not upsetting those around them.
You liberals want to complicate the simple things and simplify the complex things.
The question is how were the fans able to "smuggle" in something prohibited by the rules?
It seems YOU and the athletic department like to complicate things. If there is selective enforcement of a rule that some people don't follow, why is the rule exist in the first place? Remove the rule! If there was no rule against umbrellas, all a fan has to do is say "there is no rule against umbrellas and stadium rules printed in the stadium say that they are allowed-problem solved!
At the MTSU game my sister and I walked right in with an umbrella past any sort of ticket taker or security. Now we didn't use it during the game because we sit in the middle of the student section, but if you are up by yourself on the upper tier? That really shouldn't matter, and any upper official who calls for that to be enforced in that situation is being asinine and bureaucratic when there is by far no need to be so.
Somebody needs to meet with the AD and give him a good dose of common sense. If this guy keeps his job for two more years, at least half of the most loyal fans will be run off. I hope some other school thinks he's doing a great job at Tech and hires him. Everything he touches he screws up. This is not Nazi Germany in 1940, it's an empty football stadium where a few fans show up in a rainstorm. If there's no one sitting behind you, does your umbrella interfere with no one?
