First, I don't agree with all the rules of the MLS playoffs. But, there is an inescapable excitement tied to the rules that causes convoluted finishes.

The Dallas-Seattle playoff series concluded last night, with Dallas advancing to the Western Conference championship, but not until after a ton of drama.

One more thing, some folks criticize soccer because of a lack of scoring. Well, without going into the chess-like strategy that we purist understand and appreciate, I can point to something more tangible: saves by goalkeepers. In win or lose, critical moments, with tremendous athleticism, keepers make incredible defensive plays to deny goals.

Defense is under-appreciated in all sports. But, defense wins championships.
