    W. Basketball. Wingate, Davenport Lead LA Tech to Win

A new article has been posted on www.latechsports.com:

Although most coaches say they will take an ugly win any day of the week, Louisiana Tech head coach Tyler Summitt is ready for a pretty one.

The better team won but the team that deserved to win did not, now that being said they kept coming at Nicholls in the first half and battled and then started the second half and took control of the game but youth showed in the final 30 seconds of the 3rd qtr. We could have broke their necks up 46-36 and we didn't close out on a 3 pt shooter that dribbled off a screen. Then we threw a bad pass and a long heave at the buzzer closed it to 4 pts.

We can't make those mistakes against any team, we also tried to make passes into the post at HORRIBLE angles and you can tell that it was us trying to make something happen it isn't something that is happening each and every day in practice. They see something that they think is there in the game and they try to make a PERFECT pass instead of one more step of passing back to the wing and having the post player pin! this is something that will come along but it is hard to watch right now.

We have a couple players and they are not post players that are trying to out jump players and when we have to help off on defense because our player gets by us that rotation has to be quick and seamless everyone has somewhere to get too and they are still learning that rotation and it leads to offensive rebounds for the other team.

Great analysis! So glad you are back to posting. Always insightful posts. I just hope we can mature and clean up some of this quickly. We have ULL right around the corner and they have beat Ole Miss and Arkansas this year. That is going to be a tough one even before conference play.

We can't play at the speed and mentality our kids want to play it just can't happen yet, they are trying to attack as though they have played together for several seasons and that isn't the case, it isn't lack of effort it is just something that we will see correct over the course of the year.
We are very athletic and at times we look REALLY good, when they get in a flow it is like holy crap look at this, then when we hit a tough patch of turnovers and silly fouls it is like HOLY crap look at this lol

Re: W. Basketball. @LATechWBB Travels to Nicholls for Saturday Afternoon Tilt

I've seen lots of college girls' teams having this problem.

Don't know what would account for it, except that most guys at some level have some experience playing with their back to the basket, and maybe fewer female players have. Most of the better girls start off playing against guys (no room inside there) and by the time they get to AAU it's apparent who has a future in the post.

The point of that being, it's a lot easier to make a good pass into the post if you know what it's like receiving a pass with defenders behind and beside you. Without that intuitive mirror feel for what you're seeing as you attempt that pass, you're just going through a mental checklist of do's and don'ts.

    Well, that's my theory, anyway.
