It's pathetic that some of their fans want to boast about who they could drag a few miles past Baton Rouge (their normal game day spot). Tech absolutely crushed their "best team ever". Beat them like a rented mULLe. Bunch if low IQ plebians.

I was there. I was impressed given the distance they had to drive vs. the potential risk of losing the game to us and the average commitment an AState fan had to make to be there. When it came to the plaza level a 5-1 or 10-1 difference between our fans and theirs is no exaggeration. If I had to guess it was a 65-35 split on the crowd with Louisiana Tech easily having the advantage.
I do not want to take away from their fan base in this little spat. They likely have less alums in south Louisiana and their likely need on a per fan basis of making it an event and a nights stay was higher.
The only ones who do not want to see the end result as a win for both fan bases are bitter sad people.
You gotta remember, this was Arkansas State's "SuperBowl". There's absolutely no one they --or the Sunbelt-- would rather beat in football than LA Tech. Throw in the fact that ASU was undefeated in Sunbelt play this year and that this was their conference champions' bowl game, and there's no way ASU fans weren't going to turn out in big numbers.
Ran into some Arky State fans today, at the Mall of Louisiana in BR. The price I had to pay for my wife accompanying me to the game, was a shopping spree for her....ouch!
Anyway, these Arky State fans happen to live in Texarkana, and mentioned others they knew who were heading home to Tennessee, points all over Mississippi, and some in Mizzou. So, a long haul to be sure. I also spoke with some Arky State fans before the game and they were NOT very confident of winning. Kept saying they were hoping for a close game. So, maybe 10K Arky State fans made a long trip to support their team in a long-shot chance game. Those that did are to be commended.
As for the bowl itself, it is well-run with some nice events and a wonderful atmosphere.
per ESPN, of the five D1 bowl games played on opening day (12-19-15), only the Utah vs BYU game in Vegas had a bigger crowd than Tech vs stAte. Appy. vs Ohio; Georgia State vs SJSU; and Arizona vs New Mexico all had smaller crowds. the Dome is big and will make 32k+ look small. But I thought the turn out was pretty strong.
From my seat it was hard to tell how much bigger our crowd was from stAte. We looked larger but I couldn't tell by how much.
But I must say, I was worried about our crowd before the game. Walking around the city Friday night and Saturday morning I was sure hoping our fans were "on their way" or "live close", because I was out numbered 10-1 everywhere.
We planned on tailgating at Walk On's before the game and I headed that way about 4:30. It felt like someone put the plug in the tub, and the blue was filling it up. The streetcar, the streets, Walk Ons, etc..... by the time we left the dome it felt like the tub of blue over flowed everywhere!
Good job Bulldog fans!
From my point of view, we had more in the lower section but not by a lot. The upper deck would be interesting to see. I walked in from Champions Square, ASUs concourse was busying with Tech and ASU people. I walked over to our side and our concourse was a nut house.
I was impressed with ASUs attendance. Keep in mind if they live near I-55 they have a straight shot to New Orleans. Took us around 5 hours to get back; Google says the drive from NOLA to Jonesboro is 6 hours 41 minutes. So travel times were comparable.
What makes playing in New Orleans great is the multitude of hotels, restaurants, and watering holes within walking distance of the stadium. There were streams of blue coming out of every establishment and forming a sea of blue heading into the Dome. Chanting, laughter, and banter was exhilarating. Then, you get to sit in a nice, dry seat with a comfortable temperature. It was great!
Having been to every bowl game in recent years (S'port, San Diego, Dallas), this was the best experience for me because we just parked the car and did everything on foot.
Have you considered those Dogs?
Please tell me everybody got to see the guy in A-State's flagline perform. That was worth the price of admission.
