    A Look Ahead at TECH's C-USA Schedule

We have a very favorable conference schedule this season. Most of the tougher games will be home games.

The pre-season C-USA coaches poll results were as follows:

    2015-16 C-USA PRESEASON POLL (#) first-place votes
    1. UAB (11)
    2. Old Dominion (3)
    3. Middle Tennessee
    4. UTEP
    5. Louisiana Tech
    6. WKU
    7. Rice
    8. North Texas
    9. Marshall
    10. FIU
    11. Charlotte
    12. Florida Atlantic
    13. UTSA
    14. Southern Miss

    Road Games
    10 - FIU
    12 - Fl. Atlantic
    14 - Southern Miss
    7 - Rice
    8 - North Texas
    13 - UTSA
    4 - UTEP
    9 - Marshall
    6 - WKU

    Home Games
    14 - Southern Miss
    2 - ODU
    11 - Charlotte
    13 - UTSA
    4 - UTEP
    3 - Middle Tennessee
    1 - UAB
    8 - North Texas
    9 - Rice

Only 1 road opponent was ranked higher than us in the preseason poll (UTEP). We play ALL the teams ranked higher than us at HOME (UAB, ODU, Middle Tennessee, and UTEP). Playing the 3 teams expected to be the toughest at home only could help us this season.

Anyone brave enough to predict our conference record?

I suspect we lose 1 or 2. WKU on the road feels like a possible loss to me. Maybe UTEP on the road. Middle Tennessee is the one home game I would worry about.

Hopefully we go 18-0 and win the conference.

18-0 would be nice. I'm hoping for no more than 2 losses.

14-4 sounds about right. 15-3 would be a bonus.

Re: A Look Ahead at TECH's C-USA Schedule

Konkol seems like he's solidifying his rotation going into conference play. There is some interchange in the 2's and 3's. But it's something like this

    1--Hamilton, Jean
    2--Boykins, Jean, Luckett, Robinson
    3--Griffin, (Davis), Luckett, Robinson
    4--McCree, (Davis), Washington
    5--Holden, Sheppard, (White)

With White out indefinitely, there is no true rim protector but Holden will challenge some. Thus, players are attempting to keep their man in front of them. Rebounding is mostly a group effort but McCree is the best at it. All of the guards rebound well and we're a better rebounding team than last year. Sheppard is good at fronting his man and is physical enough to keep from getting pushed around. That said, while he usually blocks out, he doesn't have a knack for getting rebounds that don't bounce straight to him. Holden is more active and runs well but doesn't have the base to keep big guys off of the glass. McCree is a volume shooter and is a very difficult match-up even though he can get a little shot happy. Dayon has excellent driving ability and can hit the 3 on some nights. He is an excellent defender. Davis is an energy guy who plays hard and will crash the board. He also has a great vertical that allows him to score around the rim. Washington is still finding his way but he's a good athlete that will continue to improve. Luckett is aggressive and likes to pressure on both ends--high risk/high reward. Boykins has a nice stroke and runs well. He's turned into a good defender. Jean is a rhythm guy in terms of scoring. He's not afraid of the spotlight and has good ball-handling skills. Hamilton has been better than most of us expected so far. He makes the team go. I think he's playing himself into a likely draft prospect at the PG position. His passing is underrated and his basketball IQ is off the charts. I don't think there's many guys in the country that can guard him. He's also an excellent rebounder and the best finisher I remember at Tech.
    Have you considered those Dogs?

    Good point!

I'll say let's go 1-0 to start, then we'll focus on the next game.

I predict a 15-3 Conference record in 2016. We likely lose on the road at WKU & at UTEP. We also lose to UAB at home. That right, the streak ends. UAB's got our number.

Very pleased with our new head coach and his staff. Looks like we will be bringing in a great class in his first year of recruiting, player development/improvement is apparent, game management/strategy is solid, and most importantly, we are winning. To be 10-2 with losses to very respectable teams and with all the injuries, its been a very impressive start. I would say we definitely hit a home run with his hiring. Very excited about our future.

This year feels like it's our year to take the tournament. Of course the last two years felt like that too.

I was never comfortable in being able to win the tournament. From C-USA changing the rules as they went along to our HC showing loyalty to seniors instead of playing the best players in certain situations, we were not set up well.
