    2016-19 Bowl Games

    C-USA BOWL OVERVIEW 2015-2019
Conference USA will have 10 bowl affiliations through the 2019 season, securing a minimum of five berths annually and offering fans a number of great destinations across America and beyond.
Conference USA has agreements with three bowls in the state of Florida: the Boca Raton Bowl, the Miami Beach Bowl and the St. Petersburg Bowl, along with an agreement with the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl near the coast of the Sunshine State. C-USA maintains longtime relationships with the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl and the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl in the central region as well as the Gildan New Mexico Bowl in the southwest and the Hawaii Bowl in the far West. New this year will be an agreement with the new Arizona Bowl in Tucson, Ariz.

Conference USA has a secondary agreement with a bowls also located right within the league's footprint, giving teams the opportunity to participate in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La.

In these bowls, Conference USA will have the opportunity to face opponents from the American Athletic, Big 12, Big Ten, Mid-American, Mountain West and Sun Belt Conferences.

This was from October 2013. Things changed since then. C-USA switched the Bahamas & Miami Beach Bowls in 2014. I think C-USA will be in Miami in 2017, but the link above shows MAC.

The Bahamas Bowl will join the bowl line-up in 2014 as the only postseason college football game outside of the United States. The inaugural game will be held in the new Thomas A. Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas. Conference USA expects to face a team from the Mid-American Conference in 2015, the American Athletic Conference in 2018 and the Sun Belt Conference in 2019.

Beef `O' Brady's St. Petersburg Bowl
began in 2008 and has had a Conference USA participant since its inception, and has been victorious the past two seasons. This bowl is owned and operated by ESPN and held prior to Christmas each year at Tropicana Field, the home of the Tampa Bay Rays. C-USA will meet a team from the American Athletic Conference a minimum of three years.

The Boca Raton Bowl will be played in FAU Stadium on the campus of C-USA member Florida Atlantic University. It is the newest bowl announced that will be run by ESPN. The league will send a team to a minimum of four Boca Raton Bowls, beginning in 2014 against the Mid-American Conference. C-USA will face a member of the American Athletic Conference in later years.

Conference USA will enter its first-year as a primary partner with the Gildan New Mexico Bowl and will send a team to Albuquerque all six years between 2014 and 2019. C-USA will face a representative from the Mountain West Conference each season at University Stadium on the campus of the University of New Mexico.

The Heart of Dallas Bowl presented by PlainsCapital Bank was established in 2012 with the unique perspective of creating an event that will give back to its community. The Heart of Dallas is a non-profit dedicated to supporting causes in the Dallas area, using sports and entertainment as a vehicle to help gain awareness. Conference USA expects to play in the bowl six years and will alternate opponents from the Big Ten and Big 12 as teams meet in the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium.

The Miami Beach Bowl will also host its first game during the 2014 season, with Conference USA expected to face a team from the American Athletic Conference in 2014 and 2015. The American will own and operate the Miami Beach Bowl, which will be held at Marlins Park - the home of Major League Baseball's Miami Marlins. Marlins Park is located on the former site of the historic Orange Bowl Stadium in Miami. Conference USA will play in the bowl a minimum of three years.

The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl has hosted a Conference USA team nine times during its 12-year history, with a current C-USA team winning six of those 12 bowls. The game will continue to be played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. C-USA is scheduled to be involved in three games over the next six years.

C-USA also resumes its long-term partnership with the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl to play in the annual Christmas Eve game. A C-USA team has participated in, and won, the last four games in Honolulu. Following a 2013 meeting with a Mountain West team, the two conferences will square off again at Aloha Stadium in 2014, 2016 and 2018.

Conference USA enters a new secondary partnership with the
AdvoCare V100 Bowl, played at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La. C-USA will provide a surplus team to the bowl in the event the Southeastern Conference or Atlantic Coast Conference are unable to provide a team.

Well, that means that if we finish 3rd or worse in CUSA we will be locked in to New Mexico, Hawaii, Bahamas, etc again and unable to accept an Independence Bowl bid.

I wish we would drop some of these low-end, low attendance bowl agreements. With about only 4 guaranteed bowls we can negotiate a much better situation for the team and our fans. Going to just ANY BOWL, ANYWHERE on the planet should not be the goal.

Getting into a bowl should be goal #1. Getting into the BEST possible bowl should be goal #2, that measured by location and opponent.

After last year's screw up when two MWC teams had to play each other in a bowl, I would HOPE other conferences will be more willing to make deals, for the benefit of all. So, maybe, some years, CUSA could swap around whereby we ended up in the Indy Bowl, rather than New Mexico.

As many times as we've been left in the cold, I say the more bowl ties, the better.

I agree. I'll never be comfortable with 6 wins.

Six wins in a watered down CUSA should never be acceptable. Any season with less than 8 wins is coaching failure.

I plan to see us get in an Access Bowl, make the NCAA tournament and play in the CWS before I die. I might be living for a long, long time....

Not with HCSH. He does not care about winning the game(s) that it takes to do that.

He is our bowl game, 7 win guy.

That's great, but our AD does not know how to work with it.

Being bowl eligible is not a given which would mean not going to a bowl anywhere. I think we should be fine, but I've been disappointed before.

Re: 6 C-USA bowls next year

Six wins next year is anything but a given. There are lots of unknowns about our defense, special teams will probably still suck, and we lost a ton on offense. Higgins has never shown me anything, so I don't expect him to last out the year as our starter. It's just a matter of how many games he'll cost us before Skip yanks him in favor of one of the younger guys. I'd take 6-6 right now, and I'll be very pleased if we can go 7-5, but I can't see us doing any better than that.

Higgins will be a good game manager if he doesn't make the stupid throws that turn into interceptions. I am more excited about smith and Wilson. I can't wait until the spring game to see which has progressed the most. I have no expectations for this season. We blew our chance at access bowl last year with the most talent we have had in a long time. I expect the OL will be better this year than last. We get Kirby back at center which will help with the run game. I also am excited to see Ferguson at DE. He is going to be great for the next 3 years.

I will be happy if the last game of the season matters. Otherwise it could be a long year. This is the year that Holtz needs to be great or not get an extension. I think he will squeeze some wins to get us to 8.
