My favorite will be Snead...when he commits.
I am nervous that Abraham is Isham 2.0
I don't believe Skip will throw him to the wolves as it were, like Sonny did Isham. He has one experienced QB ahead of him, one with some experience and one who is expected to be great.
First of all, Nick Isham wasn't a terrible QB. Especially for a 17-yr old TRUE freshman. He was very scrappy, and could definitely throw a beautiful deep ball. Isham's biggest problem was that he was thrown to the wolves by former HC Sonny Dykes.
It's amazing that Isham was able to do as well as he did. It took Colby Cameron 3 years to adjust to being an FBS starter. It took Cody Sokol 4 years. And reasonable people could easily argue that it took Jeff Driskel 4 years to find FBS success too.
And all we gave Isham was 6 or 8 weeks.
All that said, Isham threw for over 6,000 yards in his entire HS career, with his best HS season being 2,990 yards. Abraham had 3 seasons better than that. Abraham threw for over 12,000 yards in his career, and for 5,090 yards in just his HS senior year. Statistically, Abraham appears to really be from a different planet.
Oh I understand. I just think Nick Isham gets a bad rap around here. Given some time, I believe Isham could have eventually worked out fine as a LA Tech QB. But, the kid was literally forced to start the first 6 and a half games of the 2011 season, and he will forever be judged by that. Never mind that LA Tech's team clearly hadn't jelled yet, and the toughest part of LA Tech's schedule that season were the first 7 games that Isham played in (e.g., against USM, Miss State, Houston, Hawaii, etc...).
