Before the season started, I would have thought we would have been about at this spot. After the season started, I had a different feeling and believed that we were better than I thought we would be. I look now and see we really could be undefeated in conference, though. We really blew some games. Anyway, I hope the Southern Miss win has them back on track. I don't expect a miracle repeat, but we sure appear that we can compete with anyone - IF we are on that night.Originally Posted by Dwayne From Minden
Marshall vs UAB was an entertaining game. I was impressed by both of them, especially Marshall (because I knew UAB is good). Marshall plays at a frantic pace and launches 3's without conscience. UAB is tough defensively and balanced on offense. James Kelly (Marshall) looks like the best player in the league to me.

We've got 1 game remaining against each of the 3 teams currently ahead of us. We play Middle Tennessee and UAB at home. The game against the much improved Marshall team is on the road.
We can finish as high as a #2 seed by winning out if UAB only loses the 1 game to us. If we win out and UAB had one more loss besides us, we would get the #1 seed and guaranteed NIT bid. There's a lot of games left to be played, but I start thinking about seeding long before the tournament.
Does anyone know or care where the tournament is this year?
Unfortunate ending. I understand the refs had to review and overturn, but the replay made the refs missed call foul look bad.

It was a huge blown call, not just for that game either. It could have definitive impact not only on allowing UAB to win the conference but, more importantly, to receive the #1 seed in the conference tournament. As if they need another advantage...

Maybe one game off where the "wise ones" said we'd be. Even last year's team would have a loss right now. Gotta win the tournament anyway.
I hear there will be free tickets for all UAB students this year.
Alex is the 4th best scorer in the conference--even while leading the league in assists and steals.

Top 4 teams - UAB, Middle Tennessee, Marshall, Tech
Middle 5 teams - ODU, FIU, Southern Miss, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic
Bottom 5 teams - UTEP, WKU, North Texas, Rice, UTSA
9 of our 18 conference games are against the bottom 5 teams in the standings. We are currently 2-0 against the bottom 5 teams (teams with 3 or less wins), 3-3 against the 5 middle of the pack teams, and have yet to play against any of the top 3 teams.
We have 10 games left to be played in the regular season. 7 of them are against the bottom 5 teams in the standings. 3 are against the top 3 teams in the standings with 2 of those at home. We are through playing the 5 teams in the middle of the standings.
If we don't slip up against the bottom 5 we will pick up 7 wins. We have Middle Tennessee and UAB at home on February 11th and 13th. The remaining game is Marshall on the road.
The top 4 teams will play each other one more time.
UAB has 9 games remaining - 3 vs top teams and 6 vs middle of the pack teams. 1 top 4 game at home.
Middle Tennessee has 9 games remaining - 3 vs top teams and 6 vs. middle of the pack teams. 2 top 4 games at home.
Marshall has 9 games remaining - 3 vs top teams, 4 vs middle teams, and 2 vs bottom teams. 1 top 4 game at home.
The schedule guru smiled on us this year. Just keep winning and hope the middle of pack teams do to UAB, Middle Tennessee, and Marshall as they did to us. Although UAB is currently ahead of us with 2 less losses, we could catch them or beat them since they have a much tougher schedule. If we tie with only UAB, then the winner on February 13th is the #1 seed. Of course, we could end up in a 3 to 4 or more way tie. I'm ready for the remainder of the regular season.
Oh, the tournament is really in Birmingham again, and here I thought that I was just having a nightmare. Now I know it's not a nightmare, it's reality. Of course, the reality of going to Birmingham again IS a nightmare.
