    Billionaires

I was listening to Bernie Sanders speak after his big New Hampshire win and one thing was clear... he hates the rich. He doesn't think it's fair that there are billionaires and also poor people in the same country. That just isn't right. This country was founded on fairness. He implies that the billionaires are corrupt and are stealing wealth from the poor people to keep them down.

I wanted to see who these evil people are and I discovered that there are only 536 billionaires in this country. Most of them I don't know. But I do know some of the names and I don't think they stole from the poor to become so wealthy. Here are some of the names and how they generated so much wealth:

    Bill Gates: Microsoft Windows inventor
    The Walton Family: Wal-Mart
    The Koch Brothers: Oil refining
    Mark Zuckerberg: Facebook
    George Soros: Hedge funds
    The Mars family: Candy
    Phil Knight: Nike
    Michael Dell: Computers
    Steve Jobs family: Computer
    Rupert Murdoch: Media
    Eric Schmidt: Google
    Pierre Omidyar: Ebay
    John Menyard: Grocery stores
    Ralph Lauren: Clothing
    David Geffen: Movies
    George Lucas: Movies
    David Green: Hobby Lobby
    Bruce Halle: Discount Tire
    Mark Shoen: U-Haul
    Donald Trump: Real estate
    Ronald Lauder: Make-up
    Bernard Marcus: Home Depot
The Ilitch family: Little Caesars Pizza
    Steven Spielberg: Movies
    Fred Smith - Fed Ex
Nick Saban - football coach (just kidding)
    Jerry Jones - Dallas Cowboys
    Reid Hoffman - Linked In
James Jannard - Oakley sun glasses
    David Filo - Yahoo
Mark Cuban - Sports media / Dallas Mavericks
    Bill Marriott - Hotels
    Ted Turner - Media
    Jack Dorsey - Twitter
    Anne Gittinger - Nordstroms
Tom Benson - Saints / Car dealerships
Edward Stack - Dick's Sporting Goods
    C. Dean Metropoulos - Pabst Brewing Co.

It makes a difference to put names to the rhetoric doesn't it? Are these evil people stealing from poor people? What would the country be like if we didn't allow innovation and ideas and services that make our lives more enjoyable and easier? And how many of those folks are HUGE Democrats? Look up the charitable giving of each one of them and you will find it's in the hundreds of millions every year (on top of the taxes they pay).

Another quick fact is that to be in the Top 1% that the Socialists decry so often, your income must be $300,000 a year and up. How many athletes and entertainers are in the Top 1%?!

    Re: Billionaires

It's a hypocritical and double standard stance of the left/ libs/socialist/Hollywood and entertainment elitist/democrats who use probably the majority of these billionaires contributions as well as George Soros money.
Again it's a "red herring" to keep the American public from looking straight at them, at the real source of problems in our country, and to make their class warfare campaign (true coveting sin IMHO) seem legit. It's a sicko maneuver by the libs/socialist/Hollywood and entertainment elitist/democrats.

    Re: Billionaires

But another thing is that they don't understand that a lot of these people were not born billionaires. They had a good idea and people loved it and were willing to pay for it. Do they think Fred Smith is stealing from people who choose to use Fed Ex over the postal service? That's a choice. George Lucas and Steven Speilberg don't force people to go to their movies... they are really good at it and people want to see their movies... a choice.

To put it into a sports analogy, is it fair that Shaquille O'Neil is 7'0, 280 and can score a lot of points in the lane? What about the 5'6 player who didn't even get a chance to play college ball because he couldn't shoot or dribble? Should Shaq give him half his income? This country was founded on fairness. Shaq didn't do anything for his millions, right? He's stealing it from those who never had a chance to play in the NBA.

some on the left might argue that fred smith is stealing from the people who work hard to make him his money, paying them peanuts while they sweat and he kicks back in his penthouse.

what they don't understand is that greed (or at least self-interest) is what drives human economy. people are basically greedy, and that includes the poor (everyone wants to spread the wealth until they have a little of their own). if not for the opportunity to become wealthy, people wouldn't bother taking the risk of starting new businesses. if not for the opportunity to make more money doing it, there would be very few of us who bother to put in the effort to become engineers or doctors or scientists.

if you start taking more money from billionaires, there are two things that happen:
    1) lots more money gets wasted because the government can't spend money efficiently
    2) billionaires stop investing and instead try to just hold on to what they have because they no longer have incentive to take the risks that gave them their wealth in the first place.

The left has stuck their flag in the ground of class warfare. They appeal to the less fortunate by telling them that their plight is not fair and that the one to blame is the one who has what they want. It's a simple, if illogical, message. We've dumbed down the discourse to such a level that this sort of thing passes as a platform.

Here's the thing...the right engages in similarly illogical rhetoric to appeal to the masses. The Trump phenomenon for instance.

Here's your socialist/sinful thought for the day: "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."

Yes, but something tells me you do not really understand what you type.

Rather than guess why you posted the verse, I am asking why you posted this verse and what message do you hope it conveys?

So Bernie is trying to help us get into heaven by making everyone poor? Sounds like a violation of the establishment clause.

I'm not sure I buy the gate theory. It is self-evident, however, that wealth tends to lead to (or be caused by) greed.

Job is a good example of righteous yet rich man.

Yes, but I respect what these 3 Democrats (and the others who've joined them) are trying to do with their fortunes. It should be a choice and not seized by the government, imo. All billionaires are not the greedy SOBs that Bernie believes them to be.
