    TOPS Political Ploy

Baseball could take an immediate hit. Hopefully all our players have families who are able to eat the tuition or get loans to cover costs.

Do you really believe this cut is going to stay? I think this was to get everyone's attention before the weekend in hopes they will pass his taxes. He is a true Obama man- and the fools voted him in- it is extremely sad!

It hits us (Tech parents) at an especially bad time. Semester students had already enrolled. This hits us during registration for spring quarter.

I don't believe semester students have not had the money go into their account yet. That was his whole point. Choke down the conservative voting block and FORCE them to call their reps and beg.

So, you do or don't think the semester students have had the money go in? I am unclear on what you mean.

And does this mean, for us Tech parents, we will be asked to pay the full cost of tuition, minus any Tech scholarships, when we register this time?

However, Gov. John Bel Edwards said Thursday night that none of the 49,710 students who are TOPS recipients will have to cover the cost of their scholarships. While about 20 percent of the TOPS scholarships will not be paid, the governor said it will be the universities and colleges that will absorb the loss.
While LSU leads in TOPS eligible students, the University of Louisiana-Lafayette has 37 percent of its students in TOPS, Nicholls and Louisiana Tech have about 35 percent and the University of New Orleans has 23 percent. About 10 percent of Southern University’s students receive the scholarship.

Yes, the money goes into "their account". I forget what it is actually called. Not sure the semester students have received the money yet because it is usually two weeks into the quarter before we receive ours.

The threat is that the universities will not be funded for TOPS scholarships. In his typical democrat "blame somebody else" tone he is already shifting that burden/blame to the universities.

    That is insanity.

I have been told that Tech is sending out an e-mail regarding the TOPS situation this afternoon.

TV talking heads said Thursday night the monies are deposited in the universities accounts on the 14th day of the semester. So, that would mean winter quarter is covered at Tech, but spring semesters and spring quarters are the target.

Thanks for the confirmation. I have two LaTech students who are concerned about having to take out loans. One of which will graduate after this Spring. I don't think I ever have to worry about them voting democrat.

We'll see. According to that Advocate story the governor is saying the schools will have to eat the cost. How can they do that?

Like I said, he is shifting the blame to the universities...

When ulm student Bubba's tuition is requested from the state, they just won't pay it. Bubba has already enrolled at ulm and has started classes. According to JBE, ULM has to eat that cost unless we beg our reps to suck up to him and become even more cowardly.

Tech's deal is more complex since registration has not happened for Spring. I'm sure Dr. Guice will explain the process in his email.

If the email even arrives. The junk server from who knows when finally bit the dust. Emails been out for two days and is just now getting back to intermittent but not yet stable
