Saints backup quarterback Luke McCownbecame a free agent Wednesday but will return to the Saints on a two-year contract.
Per multiple reports, McCown’s new contract is worth $3 million and includes a $500,000 signing bonus.
ESPN reported that McCown visited the Colts before signing a new contract with the Saints. McCown has been with the Saints for four years, and this new contract indicates the Saints didn’t want to lose him.

    1. Coby Fleener
      Football tight end

Jacoby "Coby" Fleener is an American football tight end for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League. After playing at Joliet Catholic Academy during high school, Fleener played college football at Stanford University. Wikipedia

Born: September 20, 1988 (age 27), Lemont, IL

      Height: 6′ 6″

40 yard dash time: 4.51 seconds

Current team: Indianapolis Colts (#80 / Tight end)

Education: Stanford University, Joliet Catholic Academy
    2. Last 3 years he has 50+ receptions with the Colts. I bet he is 70+ in this Saints offense.
It's really cute that you think that. Must be nice to see the world through such biased Aint's Goggles.

Saints sign TE Coby Fleener (5 years, $36 million): KIELBASA SLIPS THROUGH THE FINGERS MILLEN Grade
This signing is horrible. Aside from perhaps Vernon Davis, no tight end drops more passes than Coby Fleener. I'm sure he'll post some great numbers with Drew Brees throwing the ball to him, but he'll absolutely kill his new team with some untimely drops.

Steelers sign TE Ladarius Green (5 years, $20 million): A- Grade
Green is very talented, but never got much of a chance in San Diego because he was playing behind Antonio Gates. He'll be a starter now, as the Steelers needed someone to replace the retired Heath Miller. Even better, this is a great bargain, especially when considering that other tight ends were paid more, despite the fact that Green was the top player at his position in free agency. It's laughable that Green is set to earn $20 million over four years, while Coby Fleener is getting $36 million over five seasons. This is a great transaction by Pittsburgh.

I don't completely agree with those grades, but I do agree that Green is the better signing. However, I will freely admit that I am not an NFL scout, and those guys must know something I don't. Fleener is known as more of a 'pass-catching' tight end, so that should help the Saints offense get it in gear. Personally, I would rather have Green, but I hope Fleener proves your critique wrong.

No doubt. I thought the same thing, but most UL-L fans don't bash the Saints. Maybe it's Ladarius himself, angry that he wasn't signed.

Perhaps he is a Steelers and TECH fan?

Wow, it's almost like he knows me! But those grades were not written by me, they were written by an NFL expert. Personally, I would have been upset if Pittsburgh had signed Fleener. StrayDawg was right, he is known as a pass catching tight end, but he's notorious for being a pass catching tight end that can't catch passes.

And on Ladarius being upset about not being signed, he signed for less than what the Saints were in the market at after the Saints had shown interest in signing him. It's almost as if he wanted to play for an organization instead of a paycheck. He probably liked the idea of an elite quarterback too.

I'll go with whomever HCSP wants as his TE all day long. Now on defense I question SP many times.

Fair enough, but there were a ton of NFL "experts" who said that Ryan Leaf was a no-brainer over Peyton Manning. Guys like this are notoriously wrong, and they do it every year. I wanted Green, and drops is part of the reason I wanted him over Fleener, but for this guy to say it is a "horrible" signing is goofy. The expert then hedges by saying, "I'm sure he'll post some great numbers..." If he posts great numbers, then it isn't a horrible signing. Most of these NFL experts don't have much more knowledge of the game that your average poster on BB&B.

DREW BREES HOPES FOR MANY MORE YEARS AS A SAINT, TALKS ONGOING
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 21, 2016, 5:56 PM EDT
    AP
Saints quarterback Drew Brees says he’s engaged in contract talks that he hopes will keep him in New Orleans for many more years.
“It’s a negotiation. There’s always back and forth. I’ve got a very strong relationship with the Saints,” Brees said on ESPN Radio in New Orleans, via Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com. “Talks are ongoing. I don’t know that it’s something that will be done next week or before the end of the year or next year or when.”
The 37-year-old Brees says he’s physically able to do everything he could do as a rookie and believes he’ll continue to play for many more years.
“I want to be a Saint for the rest of my career. I think I’ve got a lot of good years left,” Brees said.
Brees is heading into the final year of his contract and has a cap hit of a whopping $30 million this season. The Saints would love to work out an extension that lowers that cap hit this year and keeps Brees under contract for a few more years. But if Brees and the Saints can’t come to an agreement, Brees would be an unrestricted free agent a year from now, and the Saints wouldn’t be able to use the franchise tag on him.

    I HATE April 1st.

Of course, for any fake story to work it has to have some plausibility. And any story playing on Brees' greed....works.

    Re: Drew Brees

If Brees would do like Tom Brady does, the Saints would know how much they have to work with each year during the free agency chase. But then, Brady is all about winning championships, as demonstrated by the multiple rings and Super Bowls (plural) and Brees is all about Brees. While this is was an encouraging gesture by Brees, it also points out the on-going problem he creates for the Saints.
