You can count 16 floors from the outside, but the elevator only has 15 floors. One floor is unapproachable.

So we can completely demo Wylie Tower and rebuild for less than it cost to renovate? Faulty piping and valves is due to a lack of maintenance. I'm combining threads, but others were complaining about renegotiating Holtz contract amidst massive budget cuts...
If we want to keep our academic standings, and therefore our funding, we need a new library. We don't need a football coach.
Wyly's problem are well beyond faulty piping and valves, imo.
Not my job to know or figure out the details.
I just hope whatever company they hire moves quicker than the people working on COBB.
While I have VERY fond memories of Wyly Tower, every guest I have ever taken to the Tech campus has stated the same thing "that building doesn't fit". It really never fit. The beautiful old buildings around the Lady of the Mist look like a beautiful Southern campus - very traditional and majestic. Wyly never had that. It was just a plain tall building. I am good with this decision and can't wait to see a really nice building that fits with the architecture of the main campus.
From the Master Plan:

North Carolina State

Oh, yeah. Either of those would blend in seamlessly in the Quad. A better fit that Wyly Tower even. Colonial Revival architecture and some kind of glass and steel something.
