This would be a good pickup for Tech. A very similar player to Trent Taylor, and we could always use more Trent Taylor's. The article indicates he wants to stay at the FBS level, but is barred from transferring to another SEC school.
Afraid any no one will transfer to any La college with the Tops mess-- lost one already -- if it were my son I would look for a Texas school
TOPS has nothing to do with football scholarships. They are using that as an exit. There were plenty of scholarships before anyone ever heard of TOPS.

And Tech has already indicated they'll cover the cost for those on TOPS (for at least Spring).

Not what they are saying. The scholarship an athlete receives to play football has nothing to do with TOPS.
But they can get both, right?

??? are you kidding me?? in 1989 Patrick Taylor started the scholarship-- in 1997 Governor Cambell changed name to TOPS -- its been around for over a quarter century -- and on what planet does losing Tops not hurt us recruiting or having money for athletic scholarships without tops-- read the New Orleans times article I posted ( feb 13 ) by Ron Higgins "Will cutting Tops funding spell Doom for La Athletics" ... Cutting Tops will absolutely hurt Techs ability to have funds in athletic department to fund Title Nine, baseball etc. Its called cause and effect.
My point was that kids were and are receiving athletic scholarships before TOPS was around. TOPS actually started in 1995, the year after I graduated from high school. TOPS is academic, not athletic. Do I think it will hurt Louisiana Tech University? I believe it sure won't help it. If TOPS goes away, kids entering college can do what my wife and I did, take out loans and pay on them for 15 years after graduation. If TOPS goes away, all departments of every university will feel it, athletics certainly will not be immune to the cuts.

I attended La Tech on a TOPS scholarship. I graduated high school in 1992!
Governor Foster was in office in 1997. You may be thinking of Foster Campbell who has never been elected governor.

It was not available for me (graduated HS in 1995) but was for my wife (1997). Tops is a huge reason we usually rank as one of the top schools for least amount of student debt.
Tops honors awards were available before 1995.
