    Conference Realignment Article

Saw this on another site and thought it was an interesting offseason read. Lots of predictions including four 16-team power conferences and an eight team playoff.

Just a guy with a keyboard and an elitist attitude about the A5 teams. It's an editorial with no substance.

    Re: Conference Realignment Article

I really like the idea of relegation. It has long bothered me that historically weak P5 teams receive truckloads of money every year simply because they joined a conference back in early 1900s. At least Baylor used the money wisely and has built a nice program. Then again, the folks are Vandy may be laughing their arses off as they put those truckloads of money into academics safe in the knowledge the SEC big boys will never let them go and risk adding a loss to their record.

The thought of Tech getting into into the Big12 or SEC based on it's results on the field and not because of the number of TV sets in N LA is awfully appealing.

Still one of the biggest ironies to me is the contrast between American professional sports and European soccer. Europe is known for being more socialist but Europe's soccer system of relegation, promotion, and open cups(basically playoffs over a whole year for every team) is completely opposite. You can get a group of friends together, make a team, and with hard work and good results you can eventually be playing against Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, or Bayern Munich. The whole system is more like capitalism- if you fail, you go down but if you succeed you go up. However in American sports system if you fail, you get all the benefits put in your favor to bring you back up. if you succeed, then you're given the worst conditions after. It's like communism.

Relegation and promotion would be a beautiful thing in college football.

Relegation and promotion would be huge for college football however if you thought there was money being pumped into college sports now. Just wait until Vanderbilt is threatened with relegation to CUSA. The would spend millions to insure that didn't happen when right now all they have to do is breathe and make good grades

The powers that be have too much invested to allow the system to change.

Yes, with the conferences requiring more P5 OOC games the real powers want to keep the Vandy's and other losers in so that they can have a cream puff and it will still count.

    Agreed.
I can't believe I just wasted time trading this science fiction. Outside of conferences adding more spots, everything will be stuck as it is for a very long time. That's just how it is (reality). Even if the P5s expanded, there are ton of teams that woukd fill those spots before us (boise, houston, temple, cincinatti, and even rice and/or southern miss).

Kim got some stroke in the Big12.

The Big12 would have the WBB TV market cornered.
