1n 1970s @LATechHoops freshman Randy Carlisle would do entertaining pre-game warmup drills with teammates. Coach Emmett Hendricks thought the crowd would enjoy his Pistol Pete-inspired talents.

That question is being asked a lot. The Shreveport and Monroe area media pretty much ignored this great story. This particular NY Times reporter looks for interesting stories like this. He and a photographer spent a good bit of time here this week.

That is a well written article, and it is a shame that the local papers haven't run something like this. My guess is that they would tell you that Summerfield is outside of their circulation range. The Monroe paper covers from the Mississippi line to about Ruston/Grambling, and the Shreveport Times covers from the Texas line to Haughton/Minden. Summerfield kind of falls in the no-man's land for each paper. That is not a good excuse for ignoring a story like this, but it is my guess at what their excuse would be.

On another note, I'm a little surprised that Karl Malone hasn't chipped in to pay for their rings. He doesn't owe it to them, but it seems like something he would do. I'm willing to chip in if they have any kind of fund setup online.

His pleasant exhaustion came in pursuit of an achievement that is at least extremely uncommon, and maybe unprecedented. The National Federation of State High School Associations said it knew of no other coach to have won state basketball titles with boys’ and girls’ teams in the same season.
“I’ve never heard of that,” Chris Boone, a federation spokesman, said. “I can’t say it’s never happened, but it would be pretty rare.”
