Good, I am glad to see the coach say it. I was really disappointed to lose that ETSU game although I had a sense we might. We should win those games and win them soundly.
I watch hundreds of games each season. It's not just the Bulldogs that have trouble defending the layup.
Several recent rule changes have contributed to the increase in layups in college basketball. 3 major changes made to increase scoring are as follows:The above rule changes have made defending layups a problem for most teams, not just the Bulldogs. Having a strong bench is more important than ever following the rule changes. As we know, bench strength was an issue for us this season.
- New rules about block/charge and foul calls were implemented 3 seasons ago. These rules changes favor the offensive player, and
- The block/charge circle was expanded from 3 feet to 4 feet for the 2015/2016 season, This favors the offense, and
- The shot clock was reduced to 30 seconds from 35 seconds for the 2015/2016 season. This creates more offensive possessions and gives the defense more opportunity to foul.
People won't say jack squat when the Lady Techsters go play a tournament in the Bahamas. But when our men get into a post season tournament in Vegas, everyone is worried about how much it cost all of a sudden.
Jeez.
