Don't let anybody call Tech a "mid-major"

I saw this article written by The News-Star ULM beat writer insulting Tech over and over again referring to Tech as a "mid-major" and then trying to rationalize it. There was so much ignorance in that article to play to TNS's pathetic agenda.

Never let anyone use that disparaging term to reference Tech, especially our AD. It's unacceptable.

Louisiana Tech is a Tier 1 National Research University, direction and hyphen-free since 1894, that competes at the highest level of NCAA Division I major college athletics in all sports (FBS in football) as a full member of Conference USA. There is nothing "mid-major" about us.

If anybody uses "Power 5" and then "Group of 5" to refer to Tech in a non-football sport to avoid using the disparaging "mid-major" term, just chuckle. Then inquire how they label the other 22 major conferences, and ask them how can the SEC be "Power 5" since they aren't a Top 5 basketball conference. "Group of 5" a football-only term as defined by the College Football Playoff (not the NCAA) to select teams for an NY6 bowl bid and revenue distribution, and contrary to popular belief, the CFP does not define any group of conferences as the "Power 5." It's a term created by the media to divide and conquer.

The NCAA defines Division I FBS as major college football and all Division I in all other sports as major college competition.

When people try to define "mid-major," they have different definitions. That term is used to belittle us to create a faux second class. Louisiana Tech is a first class university and athletics program so never let anybody try to define us otherwise.

By the way, Conference USA is now the No. 3 rated conference in college baseball.

Ignorance. There must be 2 dozen definitions they try to use...

Teams not in P5 conferences, but that play football too...wait...Big East teams are really majors and most of them don't play FBS football or football at all...I know! Let's have different definitions for football and basketball.

Ask them what a "low major" is and they start stuttering.

Maybe because they only had 3 teams make the tourney. They consistently rely on Kentucky to carry the entire conference. The Big 12, Pac 12, ACC, Big East, Big Ten, & AAC are easily better than the SEC. At best they are the 7th best conference in the country.

It's mostly ignorance but still has a lot to do with TNS's agenda to pull Tech down to ULM's level.

Tabby even admitted the higher ups at TNS consider ULM its "home" team, and Tech is not. TNS execs have created a ULM-biased agenda for their newspaper. Imagine if our local sports talk radio station based in Ruston did that?

I still remember shaking my head during a TNS editorial board meeting with Sandra Woodley when they were asking stupid questions, and she was trying to explain to them how Tech and ULM have different missions and how Tech is on a higher level than ULM. In one ear and out the other with TNS. Part of it is ignorance, but another part of it is agenda.

Except that the SEC has won 0 NCAA titles in the current "power conference" era as defined by the author of this article which includes the SEC as a power conference.

In the current era as defined by this guy, one conference this guy defines as a "mid-major" (American) won it in the 1st year of the era. The ACC won last year. And another conference this guy defines as a "mid-major" (Big East) is playing for the title tonight. It's possible that 67% of the NCAA champions in the current "power conference" era defined by this guy are not from his "power conferences."

What your statement means is Kentucky is one of the best basketball programs of all-time. It doesn't make the SEC part of a mythical "Power 5" in hoops.

Prolly an FCS because that's what they are in football.

Not my idea, but when discussing MBB, simply refer to them as "multi bid leagues" or "single bid leagues". That seems to pass any negative connotation to the selection committee, who has been inconsistent for many years.

It's just STUPID to refer to any G5 football team as a mid major.
