The Effects of House Bill 971 on Louisiana Tech Athletics

If House Bill 971 is designed to reduce athletic travel costs for Louisiana public colleges and universities, how much money would be saved at Louisiana Tech?

The short answer is: Not only would the bill not save much in terms of travel costs, the bill would cost Louisiana Tech a lot more money compared to any small savings from reduced travel expenses.

House Bill 971 did not include any numbers or figures as to how much money would be saved in travel costs, how many trips would be impacted, or how the schools not named LSU would be financially effected by the bill. This is my attempt to provide hard numbers as much as possible.

    1. We wouldn't qualify for membership in CUSA, would we?

    another point:
House Bill 971 exempts travel to playoffs and championships, so travel expenses associated with those contests would not count.
Can't save anything you wouldn't be unable to accomplish.

True. I was trying to accomplish how many road trips Tech athletics went on in 2014-15 that the bill would prohibit.

And no, we would be kicked out of the conference if the bill passes.

We would not be able to go to the championships cuz El Paso and San Antonio and the eastern division schools are outside the radius and regular season games/matches could not be played there.

It has more to do with the fact that somebody elected actually thought it was a good idea.

What was so magical about the "375 mile" travel limit anyway? The number of miles you travel doesn't necessarily reflect cost anyway. In some instances it may cost you less to travel 500 miles than it does 350 miles. It depends on the destination, flight costs, the cost of hotels, food, etc...

What a scheduling nightmare that would be. How many teams would be in the 375 mile zone?

I don't know why, but 400 might be the number of miles most schools start to fly (or are required to).

If he really wanted to incentive Louisiana teams to play close to home (he doesn't, but if he did) ...

Then he'd allow for costs associated with travel & guarantees to other La schools to not count against the maximum institutional transfer.

This is just yet another example of republicans being full of crap about caring about the state and this country. Or they are simply dumb as a bucket of rocks.

Instead of him coming up with a bill to have lsu rotate playing football games against all state schools to keep the money in the state. This moron comes up with yet another way to have lsu horde all the money and sisters schools and fans disdain them even more.
