LaTech Should we rename page - Dan Reneau's Legacy

Coach Barmore is deserving of a far better legacy than this program has become, but Dan Reneau EARNED this legacy. Just saying. That said, he did not directly hire Tyler (he did Spoon), but he did lead to this program's fall from grace. Thoughts of another way to honor Coach Barmore as we work to rebuild our rebuilding program. Love this program, and this school, just sorry for the debacle we currently are. Our school, our player's, and our alumni and friends deserve better.

We are rapidly running out of people to throw under the bus.
    DFM must be next.

Women's basketball has come of age and the days of Tech being a relevant player on the national scene are long gone. We simply don't have the resources it would take to compete on a national level anymore. It was fun while it lasted, but our glory days are over.

Re: Should we rename page - Dan Reneau's Legacy

I don't disagree that our time has come and gone, but I do believe that we should field a competitive team within at least our own conference. I am not passing the buck on Tyler's actions. He and his cohort own those entirely on their own. However, what started us down the road of going from a high level program to what we are was when it came time to replace Coach Barmore.... Dan Reneau intentionally (yes, I do believe it was intentional) weakened our program. It had more name recognition than him, and he was going to "be in charge". When you have a personality that has to show their power, they generally show their weakness. That exhibition was no exception. He did a lot of fine things as President and pushed the school further academically; however, as president he was over the whole school. The sports program in general was not his finest hour. The Lady Techster program had been such that we should not have accepted mediocre.

The bed was soiled by the Kim Mulkey debacle and the sheets haven't been changed since. I haven't followed the Techsters enough to know why Spoon was so bad but the people on this board sure think she was. IIRC she did win at least one conference tourney and made a couple NCAAs. The kid was not impressive and has brought negative attention to our university. Now its coming out that favoritism issues likely born out of the inappropriate relationship were impacting the team. Thus it looks like the entire coaching staff was complicit.

If the AD was smart he'd clean house and hire someone with experience and a reputation beyond reproach.

Coach Barmore built a wonderful legacy, one we all embrace. I don't think now is the time for us to drown ourselves in cynicism--our past legacy as a program is much greater than what's currently going on.

I thought T-Spoon was a good hire. She was a former Tech All-American that lead Tech to a national championship, had a successful career in the WNBA and also had several years of coaching experience. Summit had 2 years a an assistant at with a mediocre program. I think a good high school coach would have been a better choice than Summit. This was a really dumb hire and the guy that hired him now looks like an idiot.

    You are a moron.

Let's see....for only the gazillionist time...pigtails was offered a 4-year contract that made her the HIGHEST PAID COACH AT TECH....higher than the MBB coach and higher than the football coach!

tick, tick, tick....let that fact sink in.

She had ZERO, ZILCH, NADA head coach experience at that time. Leon had spent years grooming her to be his replacement, putting all of our chips in that one basket. He (we) could have been grooming someone else, you know, like Gary Blair, for instance, and others. So, Leon retires and then kaboom! that bitch stabs her own alma mater in the back, multiple times.

Reneau, and others, told her she would earn an extension to the contract making it 5 years+, which was the point of contention according to pigtails. Only, it really wasn't. It was just the excuse she leaned on. As I recall, at that time, 4 years was the maximum length a state contract could be for personnel, or at least for coaches. It wasn't until it affected LSU that the legislature changed it.

Let's review, put yourself in this situation: you are presented a 4-year contract making you the HIGHEST PAID COACH AT TECH, I mean, seriously, a frickin' WBB coach making more than the FOOTBALL COACH!!??? And, you are being allowed to coach at your beloved alma mater. One would assume that that alone would mean something to you. But....apparently that wasn't good enough for the all-mighty "I am more important than any institution, or any group of a 100,000 people you care to assemble" pigtails.

So, she throws a temper tantrum, wrecks her office, destroying public property, and chases off recruits, including Alana Beard, who later led Duke to the Final Four. Then, Leon had to come OUT of retirement and coach two more years, just to stabilize the situation.

pigtails alone is responsible for that whole mess. You idiots that keep blaming Reneau are simply stupid.

Superb job, Mr. Counsellor! Case closed. Reneau's damage to athletics is huge, but pigtails is not one of them

Thanks 80. I'm sure this has been mentioned before but like a lot of other things that go down in Ruston people on this board tend to beat around the bush or allude to things but don't actually come out and say them. I always heard she wasn't happy with the contract that was offered but never before had I heard she trashed her office.
