Wow, some crazy comments from her.
pigtails said she would've gone to LSU....actually wanted to....but at that time, our WBB program was light years ahead of LSU's. pigtails said she wanted to compete for national championships and to be the best. Going to Tech offered her the best chances to accomplish all of that. This is her words.
So, she chose Tech for strictly personal and selfish reasons. Yeah, lots of people....I dare say "most" people...do that, so nothing wrong nor different for pigtails doing that too. Just that, some folks think pigtails has some "love affair" with Tech. Nah! just a means to an end for her.
So she was going to be paid more than the football coach and still threw a fit?
Some of the people on this board have been butt hurt over Kim Mulkey jilting Tech since the day she left, and they just can't stand her success. Dawg80 is CLEARLY one of them. He tells outright lies about Kim every time he gets a chance. If you want to know the truth of Mulkey's departure from LA Tech, it's all published in her book, "Won't back down". In the book Mulkey exposed Dan Reneau for the arrogant ass that he really is, and silenced her LA Tech critics who had previously insisted she had just as good an offer from LA Tech as the Baylor offer.
Fact is, when Leon Barmore retired from the Lady Techsters without notice, Kim Mulkey wasn't even offered the job at first because Reneau and former Tech AD Jim Oakes insisted on doing a "national search" for a new coach. Mulkey was rightfully upset about this "non-offer" because she had been working and recruiting for the Lady Techsters for 15 years as an assistant to Barmore. When Barmore found out a few days later that Mulkey had not even been offered the job, he went ballistic. Barmore was very angry with Oakes and Reneau over this and told them they were terribly mishandling the deal. After dragging out the decision for a few more days, Reneau & Oakes finally offered Mulkey a contract.
Meanwhile Baylor's AD was very aggressive about wanting to talk to Mulkey about their job opening. Dispirited by LA Tech's lack of an early offer after 15 years as a Lady Techster assistant, Mulkey finally agreed to meet with Baylor's AD who had been trying to meet with her for weeks. His offer was longer (5 yrs vs 3 yrs), had a much bigger salary, and the Baylor people really rolled out the red carpet and acted like they truly wanted her.
Still, Mulkey returned to Ruston and gave Reneau (who was really calling the shots) one last chance to improve his half hearted offer to coach the Lady Techsters. Oakes wanted to improve Tech's offer, but Reneau absolutely refused. So Mulkey walked out knowing she had given her all to LA Tech, but the school had absolutely refused to reciprocate.
So, the rest is history. Mulkey moved to Baylor and built the Lady Bears from nothing into a powerhouse program that has already won 2 national championships, routinely wins Big XII titles and makes the NCAA Tournament literally every year. Meanwhile, the Lady Techsters are in the same place today that they were in the year 2000....except that we no longer go to the NCAA Tournament.

http://www.latechbbb.com/forum/showt...-Mulkey-s-book!!I just read Kim Mulkey's book, "Won't Back down". It's a very easy read and a VERY interesting book for Louisiana Tech fans. This book will give Tech fans a blow by blow summary of how Baylor lured Mulkey away from the Lady Techsters program back in 2000, as well as a "behind the scenes" look at our apparently "ethically challenged" university president, Dan Reneau.
Please get your hands on this book ASAP and read pages 65 thru 82. It will absolutely make your blood boil. You can see for yourself how Dan Reneau mishandled Mulkey's exodus from Tech, and after it became clear that his "4-yr plan" was blowing up, he --according to Mulkey-- planted lies about Mulkey in the media. (These lies to the media were apparently NOT leaked from Jim Oakes' office, but rather Reneau's via Tech's PR department.)
According to the book, as weeks and weeks passed after Barmore first announced his retirement back in 2000, neither Oakes or Reneau would even discuss the job opening with Mulkey. Barmore was in shock. He couldn't believe it. Even members of Tech's Athletic Council didn't understand why Louisiana Tech had not stepped up. In fact, it was during this time that Oakes was quoted in newspapers as saying "Louisiana Tech is conducting a national search for Coach Barmore's replacement." According to Mulkey, that statement hit her like a ton of bricks. With a 19-yr association with Tech as a player and assistant coach, they knew she wanted the job, but they wouldn't talk to her about it.
Meanwhile, Baylor AD Tom Stanton was putting the hard sell on Mulkey. He absolutely refused to give up. He rolled out the red carpet for Mulkey and her family. He said he was tired of Baylor being a training ground for coaches who would move on to bigger and better jobs, and that he envisioned Mulkey as a real long term asset to Baylor University.
While Reneau's mismanagement of the situation is bothersome, I was mostly disappointed to hear that our university president can --according to this book-- be so ethically challenged. That's very disappointing, if true. Regardless of whether Reneau decided to offer Mulkey the Lady Techster job or not, planting lies in the media about someone --especially one of our own, for goodness sake-- crosses the line of ethics and fair play. It's just not acceptable. And it makes me think Louisiana Tech could continue to suffer in all things athletic due to its association with Reneau. I firmly believe that we humans reap what we sow. If you do good, you'll get good in return. Likewise, if you cheat people or take advantage of people, you --and everyone who enables you-- may suffer.

Too funny! Hogdawg holds up a book written by pigtails as his proof .
Yeah, and Adolf Hitler was writing a book at the end, and in it he wrote he was really a nice guy. That the world press was just telling lies about him. Hogdawg would say....see, Hitler clearly wrote, pages 65-82, that he didn't do all those things he was accused of. It's all lies. You have to believe me, Hitler wrote, because I have put it in a book, so it must be true!!!!!
no more proof is needed!!! FACT is FACT, that is how it happened there is no disputing that, we allowed DR to screw up that situation and there is nothing we can do to fix it now but move forward.
KM was correct in everything in her book but it still doesn't change that we can't fix it we just have to move forward and continue to try and rebuild.
in the end, Kim's arrogance was killing her on-campus respect daily. Bless her heart.

Dawg80 you are one of the most negative and shallow thinkers on this board. If I recall correctly, you were one of those leading the parade to fire Skip Holtz during his first year here. Fortunately saner minds prevailed and ignored your rants.
One can logically assume that since neither Dan Reneau nor Jim Oakes publicly refuted anything Kim Mulkey wrote in her book regarding the negotiations for the Techster head coaching position, then she must have written the truth. Dan Reneau made it perfectly clear to his AD that he did not want Kim Mulkey from the very beginning. Reneau's ego had been battered and bruised for his entire tenure at Tech because Leon Barmore sucked all the oxygen out of the atmosphere regarding any publicity about Tech. Reneau hated this. Reneau always expected to be the only icon associated with Tech at any level-local, state or national. Barmore and the Lady Techsters made this impossible, and Reneau feared that if Mulkey became the coach, the tradition would continue. He was determined to not have to share the stage with the women's basketball coach any longer. He saw his chance to deny Mulkey the position and he made it happen.
Mulkey was much wiser than Reneau ever thought possible. When one enters into a negotiation a BTNA is important. BTNA is "best alternative to a negoiated settlement." Mulkey had one in her purse when she met with Reneau and Oakes in the corner office of Wiley Tower that fateful day. She had a very lucrative contract with Baylor. Reneau and Oakes had nothing. When Mulkey accepted the offer from Baylor, Reneau and Oakes were forced to beg Barmore to return to the Techster sidelines until sanity and order could eventually be restored. The rest is history. History has been favorable to Mulkey and a disaster for the Techsters.
Could Mulkey have kept the Techsters in the top ten year after year? We will never know because of Reneau's ego.
