Good move, except they now have to play Montana State every year. Is NMSU next?...Or maybe NLULM?
ULM will be moving to the Southland in 3 years if the Southland will take them.
We need to work on attracting more of those fringe fans. The more support we have, the faster the warchickens can make that move.
Not nlulm
Not true
They don't have many fans who don't already own purple and yellow crap.
We've discussed many times that it will not help nlulm to move to fcs. It would be a net loss financially if they moved down.
Idaho was in complete limbo with no fbs football revenue at all other than money games. It was impossible for them to put together a workable schedule. nlulm has some revenue and that revenue currently supports their entire athletic department. They MUST have the Sunbelt. Without Sunbelt they are better off to drop football than go to the Southland.
I'm not so sure about that.
Even at the FCS level, there is some marketing value (not to mention harder to measure things like student engagement and school pride) that doesn't show up on a spreadsheet at first glance. And the Big Sky may be applying pressure that they want another football team and might not be ok with a non-football member in the future (conference advantages are one of the big things that UAB's president overlooked in their whole football fiasco).
That makes sense.
Update from FootballScoop.com:
The Idaho Statesman is confirming that Idaho will announce they will drop to FCS and compete in the Big Sky beginning with the 2018 season.

Okay. So ND State is in the Missouri Valley conference. They really need to be in the BCS or whatever we call it now, but there is no conference really close. B1G or Pac 12 are the closest. No group of five (wasn't that the guys Mao had exterminated back in the 70s?) near -- maybe the MAC with the directional Michigan schools. They would just be across Minnesota/Wisconsin from them.
My heart goes out to their players, coaches, boosters, fans and support staff.
I would be devistated as a fan if Tech were to ever move down in classification.
