Driving from MS with 2 of the 4 kiddos to witness the sweep in person. I know MTSU is not good, but still a sweep? I'll take it.

Rice is just as good. Having them at home may help some, but Rice won't allow that to matter (assuming it really does).

Magic Number is 1. Dawgs up 6 games on 9th seed with 6 conference games to go.
FIU would have to sweep both @UAB and SMiss. Not gonna happen.
Charlotte would have to sweep @UTSA and UAB. Guess that could happen, but extremely unlikely.
We have the series tie-breaker over both.
I say that a tournament bid is clinched.
We are playing for seeding now. I guess technically we could still not make the tournament, but the odds are by far against it. I'm not going to say we're in because this is baseball, and anything can happen.
Our record in the first 12 conference games was 6-6.
Our record in the second 12 conference games was 9-3.
6 conference games remain against the teams tied for the conference lead: 3 at USM and 3 vs. Rice.
USM and Rice at 18-6 have a 3 game lead over us.
First place seed is still mathematically possible.
Add in the two midweek games against Northwestern State and all our remaining games are against top 50 RPI teams (all 3 are Top 40 right now).
Could we get an at-large bid with a continued good finish? After all, we play in a top 5 baseball conference.
Well, Southeastern jumped 19 spots to a 36 rpi after sweeping Lamar on the road.
So, yes, we can still play our way into an at-large based on our opponents over the last 8 games and the conference tournament.
I'm guessing 6-2 to finish the regular season and then reach the conference semi's. Is that enough?
If we finish 6-2 we better dang well get an at large bid. Every team from here on out currently has an RPI rank of less than 50 I believe. Of course a strong showing in the tournament would help.
The hitting we witnessed over the past two weekends won't go 6-2.
USM beat UTSA 30-9 in a 3 game sweep
USM beat Middle 27-20 in a 3 game sweep
USM also swept Charlotte and beat Western 28-9 in a 3 game sweep this weekend.
Rice's record is not as impressive, but still...
I hate to say this, but I'm not expecting us to win either series. They are both very good teams. Boy would I love to be wrong.
I'll take 1 win over USM at this point.

The two games over NSU are very important now. We need to win both, but that certainly won't be easy.
That's why I love baseball. A hot team on a winning streak can be dangerous this time of year. I think we're 9-1 in our last 10 games.
It appears they lost one of their weekend starters. So Sunday they will start a mid weekd guy. They have had some struggles there according to fans. So If we can steal game 1 or 2 I like our chances Sunday with our hottest pitcher on the mound.
