Like this iniative but we are past desperate for a major fundraising campaign for the University. I know fundraising has changed but have we ever had a major goal and campaign? If so it has been many many years and far too long. Hope that changes soon.

I've donated! I appreciate the scholarships that I received when I was a Tech student. I encourage everyone to give--even if it's only $10. As I understand it, the organization with the most contributors when this campaign ends gets a prize of an extra $2,500--and that money could certainly help a deserving student! We're currently in second place right now (20 donors behind the leader).

Thank you Bluebird, paying it forward is a wonderful feeling. 205 contributors so far is an embarrassment.

What's the benefit difference between this effort and just giving directly through LTAC like most Tech fans do? A lot of promotion and expense is needed to try to win a $2,500 prize. We unnecessarily embarrass ourselves in the process when it 'appears' nobody cares, but reality is that they give directly.

This is raising student scholarship funds, nothing to do with LTAC.

    um, EXCUSE ME?!!!
Your participation in LTAC is vital to the continued success of Louisiana Tech athletics by allowing us to improve athletic facilities, fund scholarships for student-athletes, and invest in retaining successful coaches.

This was posted in the "football" forum. If it pertains to students in general, then the LTUF applies.

Either way, this was not communicated well at all.

I believe there are also some matching funds available that will be divided up proportionally to the amount of money raised by each group. I don't think it's a dollar-for-dollar match, but the money raised for Tech will be matched with some additional money.

I'm not suggesting that anyone NOT give to LTAC. This Give 4 Good initiative provides funds for scholarships for outstanding students (not just student-athletes). I benefited from such scholarships when I was at Tech. My daughter is currently the recipient of one. I love athletics, but I also appreciate scholarship funds for non-athletes. I'm not sure that any significant expense has been incurred in promoting Give 4 Good; it's a regional fundraising initiative publicized via social media.

I also didn't mean to imply that the end goal is to win a prize. I simply thought that many people--including recent alumni--might want to participate, since this campaign encourages gifts at almost any level ($10 and up) and since it would benefit the general student population. Recent graduates might struggle to contribute $500 to Tech, but they could perhaps chip in $25 or $50--thus beginning a pattern of donating to Tech.

This is an annual one-day fundraiser put on by the Community Foundation of North Louisiana. I believe this is the first year the LT Foundation has been involved. There are no expenses to Tech involved in this - just some facebook posts and tweets.

IIRC, this is the first year Tech has been involved with this.

I donated to this as well.

How is this an embarrassment for Tech?

It appears we ended up with the most donors (275), and only 1 other organization (Holy Angels) eclipsed the 200 donor mark.

    LaTech -- 275 donors, $22,010
    LSUHSCS -- 50 donors, $11,416
    LSUS -- 49 donors, $8,785
    SUSLA -- 28 donors, $2,416
    ULM -- 6 donors, $350
    BPCC -- 3 donors, $320
    NWST -- 3 donors, $120

Thanks to our generous donors, it looks like we earned at least 3 of the extra prizes:
    - $2,500 for Most Donors
    - $500 for Notable Newcomer
    - $500 for 4 AM - 5 AM Golden Ticket Award

It was a one-day deal looking for small grassroots contributions to a generic scholarship fund apart from our annual drives, and this was the first time Tech has ever participated in this. I don't understand how anybody could see this as embarrassing for Tech.
