Calling someone in Division 1 a baseball "mid major" is stupid. Calling a team a "mid major" that is playing for the national championship in Division 1 baseball is "stupider."
Good old Memorial Gym
We had 6556 full time under grads while Vanderbilt reported 6775 at last reporting period to Dept of Education. I am sure we had more on campus though as they are in a metropolitan area and I suspect have a lot more commuters. The number 6556 is the most important one when discussing athletics. They are the ones who pay the Facility Enhancement Fee that is enabling us to pay off the SEZ bonds in addition to some leftover funds that can be used for other facility purposes like new pressbox. etc.
Well, a "mid-major" is one win away from a CWS title.
Go Coastal!
Coastal had a real problem with Arizona's pitching in game 1 but also just didn't seem to be quite "right". It started out that way last night but seemed to find their MoJo thanks to their left fielder Anthony Marks. And using their star reliever Morris to start and give their regular starters some rest was a bit of a gamble but it worked out. Think Coastal's in a good place for the final game.
This sets up to be a great game tonight! Arizona's tough for sure but my money's on Coastal!
The road to the CWS led both teams through Louisiana. Arizona won the Lafayette Regional and swept Mississippi State in Starkville in the Super Regionals. Coastal Carolina won the Raleigh, NC (NC State) regional and swept LSU in Baton Rouge, LA.
Both teams came out of their bracket's loser's bracket to win a spot in the CWS championship. Coastal had to win 2 in a row against TCU in their bracket and Arizona had to beat Oklahoma State two in a row to win their bracket.
Along the way to the championship every SEC, ACC, and Big 12 team (the top 3 RPI conferences) got eliminated. Only #1 Florida represented the SEC in the CWS. They lost their first 2 games to be eliminated.
Ditto
GO COASTAL !!!
Coastal is actually the favorite in this series believe it or not.
Why are fans of a C-USA school rooting for a school joining the Belch in a couple days?
No member of the Belch has ever won a major college national championship, and it's best to keep it that way. Go Arizona!
If Coastal Carolina wins tonight, you know what the storyline will be on July 1, right? And every time they visit the JUCO?
Win or lose tonight, Coastal Carolina will be a member of the Belch in less than 32 hours.
Tech hasn't won any national titles as a member of C-USA, but that doesn't take away Tech's 3 major college national titles. It doesn't take away UTEP's 21 or Rice's 1 or Old Dominion's 10 or North Texas' 4 major college national titles either.
It's best that no member of the Belch claim a major college national title whether they won it in the Belch or not.
