I'm not referring to anyone's specific comments on this thread, but talks I've heard about these kinds of circumstances have led me to really question people's use of the phrase "I'm sure..." as in

Q: "Did ______ know about it?"
A: "I'm sure he/she did."

My response: "No, you're not sure. You think."

Mini rant over.
