    4 Home games - 2 against 1-AA & we lost to SFA!
But we did beat the twins!

As I was typing that statement I remembered the pre-WAC days, but had forgotten just how bad it was the year prior to joining the WAC. Sadly, the next year we only had 3 games in Ruston because our AD played SMU in Shreveport. (4 home games)

Just goes to show that no matter how bad we are, the war-chickens and chili-peppers always find a way to embarrass themselves against us.

I remember the absolute feeling of humiliation after the SFA game. For the first time in like 30 years of watching Tech football together, Dad and I said NOT ONE WORD all the way back to Spearsville. As I dropped him off at home, his parting comment as he closed the car door..."well son that was the biggest pile of **** I think we've ever stepped in." HAHA

I'm about 99% sure it was announced and shared with the "audience". If it wasn't, no one asked about him not being there. You have to understand that the focus of this event is eating, drinking, buying raffle tickets, silent auction, live auction and then the speakers. You do have the chance to actually walk up to the administrators and coaches and talk with them one on one which a lot of people do.

And don't forget the embarrassing road loss to MTSU. MTSU had just moved up from 1AA to 1A, and this was MTSU's first victory over a 1A school. In fact, the win over LA Tech was their biggest football victory in school history at that point. I seem to recall that MTSU's students tore their goal posts down after the game.

And your dad was right. There was a lot of embarrassment that season. It's the same reason I call the 2000 LA Tech team our worst of all time.

I still call 1966 the worst season. At least we beat NLULM and ULaLaa in 2000. So we lost to SFA. In 1966 we lost to everybody except SE La. - that is Southern Miss., Alabama (National champions), McNeese, Arkansas St. USL, Northwestern, Tennesse Tech (who?), Lamar and NE. Among others, the losses in 2000 were to Kansas St., Penn State, Auburn and Miami.

Losing to K-State and Penn St, etc......is one thing, but losing to K-State 54-10 and Penn State 67-7 was just shameful. That's just being stripped of your manhood and not putting up a fight.

Needless to say, both the 1966 season and the 2000 season were both remarkably bad in their own way.

I was at the 2000 Kansas State game with by best friend who was a Kansas State Alum. Not only did we get drubbed it was so hot (126 degrees in the stadium) that I got a sun burn under my cap from reflected heat off the artificial turf. Yes we were that close to the field in the end zone.

2006 was pretty terrible. I remember watching the game at home against Nicholls. They went up 21-0 in a hurry running the same play. Triple option fake to FB, fake to RB, QB drop back and toss to a WIDE OPEN FB that nobody bothered to pick up as he went through the line. We also loss to Idaho on Homecoming that year which was a miserable game.
