Does any of this damage fall back on the students. Yes, I know that it's nice to play on new instruments but a drum is a drum. Unless the drum is physically falling apart, why would you replace it unless you want to have a different look or just spend money? Not being a smart*ss here. I seriously have been around marching bands most of my life so why spend big $'s unless absolutely necessary. Make the students accountable for damage. I know over time things get dinged, scuffed and whatever but if its playable, then play it.
Great question, and it is a much appreciated question...so in no particular order of priority:

    1. a new look
    2. recruiting
    3. we don't have enough now, requiring a decent sized purchase anyway
    4. the ensemble has grown over the years, requiring new purchases, and there is a mixture of equipment, albeit the same color and brand
    5. scratches, dings, rim cracks, exposure to the elements causing some finish issues such as color fading, warping, etc.
    6. the people who have committed $ and time want this ensemble to have new equipment
    7. the current equipment, pending approval from the university and the state, may be able to get auctioned off

Considering the age of some of these instruments and the amount of use they have had for 25+ years, they are in amazing shape. With the amount of use a typical university will give to instruments, drums ought to last for a good 15 years if well taken care of. These have been exceptionally well taken care of.

I'll add this...the amount of physical stress put on these instruments, particularly on the rims, tension rods, and carrier attachments during a half time show is really high.

Any word on what brand/color they're going with for the new set?

Need to consider those rainy games and hot practices from the 80-90's to present, I bet that adds to warping and aging of the drum shell.

Yes...and people committing to participate in the formation of a band alumni association...particularly those who marched in the drumline...are being given that information.

Another coming BBB-sanctioned fundraiser is the CHAMPion campaign. For every "twss" posted on BBB, admins will hit the credit card of the poster for $1. Proceeds will be donated to the band program to furnish toilet paper in the band hall. You guys should get an email from Dr. Guice about this one next week. In recognition of Champ967 for inspiring the campaign, a nameplate will be installed above the middle urinal...because that is obviously the one he uses.

The poster that posted "twss" or the poster that caused the "twss" to be posted or both posters?

Why not both? The band uses a lot of toilet paper.

    Absolutely outstanding. I'm all in.

(But everyone knows you should go to an end urinal if one's available.)

Just FYI...the uniform in that tweet obviously doesn't fit the student wearing it. It is a sample and is not correctly sized for him.

I just can't get past the black pants and shoes. Also, the red on the top of the shako is weird.

As I said before, I'll live with it. Mainly, because unlike other organizations at Tech, the BoP is still rocking the state-T, the ONLY symbol that should ever be associated with Tech. And because of how they were obtained. And I only have to look at and not wear it.
