Sutton is resting. Bristo, not sure.

I'm with HoDo on the pitchers. I would rather seem them rest their arms over the summer.

According to the article, the pitchers will be on pitch counts. Some of the rosters have 18-20 pitchers and some are filled with Freshman and sophomore pitchers.

Are any of our redhsirts playing this summer?

    Re: Summer assignments

Can someone fill me in on how these summer leagues work? How does a player get on a team (invited or assigned) ? Is there a cost to play? If so, then who pays for it (player/parents, sponsors, school?) Transportation to and from the team location?

I seriously don't know anything about this so any comments are appreciated.

I found out last night that those playing far away from home have host families for the summer. I did not have time to ask for more details.

    Re: Summer assignments

Players are assigned or invited to play for teams. There is a league fee for most leagues and housing fees for some leagues, these are paid by the player. Players are responsible for getting to the team location. All leagues vary a bit.

I could see Lunceford for sure, but Casey Sutton? He can flat out pitch, but he was throwing 82-84 against SEMO. That isn't near what the Cape is looking for.

My wife and I have been to a couple dozen college summer league games in several different states, including the Cape Cod League in Massachusetts. During these games it is not unusual for us to strike up conversation with people sitting around us since I always wear some Louisiana Tech gear. We've met several host families for summer league players. One couple we met in a Virginia town also provided their guest with summer employment in their business when he was not practicing or playing. I don't know if all players have part-time summer jobs or not.

As you know, my wife and I have spent much of our last 10 summers traveling and watching baseball games in different stadiums all over the country. Major league, minor league, independent ball, and college summer leagues have been our focus. It's been a lot of fun.

We hope to resume traveling soon. I expect our first trip will be to a baseball game. I was hoping to make it to at least one College World Series game this summer, but that trip is looking doubtful. Maybe I can catch an Astros series in Houston soon. 2nd choice would be a trip to Frisco, Jackson, Biloxi, Tulsa, or North Little Rock for AA MiLB game. Tulsa is on the list because we've never been to a game there. We went there two years ago on the way to Branson but the game was rained out. We've been to the others at least one game. We've seen several games at Jackson and Little Rock.
